Position Overview:
You will play a pivotal role in sourcing and curating engaging and informative content for our
new ‘Settled Culture website’. We’re looking for people to help with either of these two aspects
(ideally both!)

  1. To assist in finding “what's on” content to ensure our audience stays up-to-date with
    cultural events and experiences in Wales (grassroots music, comedy, theatre, food,
    festivals etc); and inputting to a user-friendly website template including brief summary
    of where, what, when, booking links, why we like, etc
  2. To create captivating short pieces relating to some of these events, exploring various
    aspects of European cultures with artists involved.
    Key Responsibilities:
    • Stay informed about current cultural events to compile timely "what's on" listings.
    • Collaborate with the editorial team to brainstorm, pitch, and develop content ideas.
    • Conduct interviews and gather firsthand accounts to provide unique perspectives on
    European cultural events in Wales
    • Research and write compelling articles on diverse cultural topics, ensuring accuracy,
    professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.
    • Work closely with staff to meet publication deadlines and maintain a consistent
    schedule.

    • Strong passion for exploring and sharing insights about European cultures.
    • Good writing skills with an ability to adapt to different writing styles and tones
    • Research-oriented mindset with an eye for detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
    • Previous writing experience, preferably in a cultural or lifestyle context.
    • Familiarity with digital content creation tools (though training will of course be
    provided)
    Background of Settled / Settled Culture
    Settled is a UK-wide charity set up in 2019 to help EU citizens living in the UK whose rights
    were affected by Brexit. Settled worked hard to ensure as many as possible secured their
    immigration status before the deadline in June 2021, so that their lives here could continue.
    We now continue to provide free, accredited information, advice and support to EU citizens,
    including people who are late applying to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), or who have
    had their application refused. We also help when people are struggling to prove their
    immigration status or access rights and services. Since March 2022, Settled also now
    provides advice on the Ukraine Family Scheme and Homes for Ukraine Scheme. This service
    is for Ukrainians in the UK or overseas, and hosts. We cover immigration rights and broader
    rights of housing, education, etc.
    ‘Settled Culture’ is a new development to promote grassroots cultural events by or for
    European citizens here, starting in Wales as a pilot. The new project will celebrate the cultural
    contributions of EU citizens and Ukrainians in the UK – both first generation migrants to UK,
    and second/older generations to express diversity of multiple identities. We also aim to help
    British people access, and delight in, the cultures of their European neighbours; and to
    improve local community cohesion.
    We are currently working with a developer to build a new website for 'Settled Culture', which
    will go alongside and complement Setttled's core advice work and existing website. Events,
    articles and videos will be promoted through this new site and social media.

We worked hard to ensure as many as possible secured their immigration status before the deadline in June 2021, so that their lives here could continue. We now continue to provide information, advice and support to EU citizens, including people who are late applying to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS), who have had their application refused, or are moving from pre-settled to settled status once eligible. We also help when people are struggling to prove their immigration status or to access rights and services. These can include the right to bring family members to join them in the UK, and to access welfare benefits, healthcare, etc. Since 2022, we also now provide advice on the UK’s Ukraine visa schemes. We cover immigration rights on the three schemes, and broader rights of housing, education, etc. (We do not assist in ‘matching’ directly). Our services are free, multilingual and accredited.

Outreach and Communications Volunteer

As an outreach and communications volunteer with Settled, you will promote Settled and its services within your local community. You will work closely with Chris Keppie, our Communications Manager, and his team. The role will require you to network with local community groups, third sector support services, local embassies or consulates, local authority statutory services, and any other group that is involved in supporting EU and Ukrainian citizens in the UK. The main purpose of the role is to expand the reach of Settled into communities across the UK to offer support to as many people as possible, particularly people who are ‘vulnerable’ or ‘hard to reach’ in any way. This will include building a network of positive relationships with local and national organisations operating in your area who will be able to refer/signpost to us and share our promotional materials; and with local media organisations (who will then liaise with Settled staff). It will also include researching and sharing to appropriate local social media groups. You will be a representative of Settled, have a detailed knowledge of the charity, its history, and the services we provide. This is not an advice role. Candidates will not require OISC accreditation and will not be permitted to give tailored immigration advice. Summary of duties: • Attend local community venues, engaging with potential service users and referring organisations, distributing Settled publications., and increasing sign up to our social media pages/groups and newsletter. • Attend appropriate local networks, forums, or meetings to promote the work of Settled. • Work with other communications staff and volunteers to populate a local digital asset map relevant to Settled and its work. • Assist with social media analytics to monitor what trends and patterns produce best engagement in local contexts. Role requirements: • Confidence and outgoing personality to attend local events and meetings, and to make 1:1 contact with potential referring or media local partners. • Ability to act as a professional and positive ambassador for Settled. • Access to a computer and internet. • Monthly time commitment can be flexible and is open to discussion. Volunteering commitment for a minimum of 6 months is preferred. This voluntary position is not paid, but reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed.

Committee Members

Volunteers we need you, with you inspiration and motivation to serve as a board member on the Management Board of HALLA (Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association). We are a Board of people who run daytime and evening classes at Kaimhill Learning Centre. We have a FB page ( @HALLACommunity) where you can see some of our activities and tutored classes. We meet once a month to discuss new opportunities and management issues, to find new ways of how-to bring people of all ages in the local community into the centre. We have several weekly, social, informal learning groups where Board members can get to know each other and form a friendly working relationship. A volunteer should be passionate, enthusiastic and have a keen interest in community matters. A volunteer does not necessarily require specific skills since we all support each other to develop new skills but if you have specific ones, it would be good to introduce them to the rest of the Board so we can use them to benefit the local community. The Board would appreciate people with knowledge of IT and office procedures but enthusiasm and interest in the community are equally important. EUSS Immigration Adviser

Settled relies on our huge team of volunteers spread across the UK. We currently have around 100 volunteers, working across more than 20 European languages. Our volunteers help some of the most vulnerable EU citizens to secure and access their rights in the UK post-Brexit. Settled offers you the chance to support EU citizens and their family members with their applications under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) and accessing associated rights. You will assist our beneficiaries by providing high quality immigration advice with the support of our service coordinators and senior advisers. Most volunteering roles are home-based – answering phone calls (through an app) or emails, at agreed times to suit you. Face-to-Face support can also be provided in certain areas. We will train you on the EUSS, and you will be accredited by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) to provide advice on the EUSS through Settled. We will give you all the tools to make a positive and professional difference; and you will always have support on hand from our experienced and dedicated service coordinators. You will gain new skills and confidence and you will join a network of dedicated and positive volunteers of many nationalities and cultures! For those interested in obtaining a higher qualification in immigration advice we can support our volunteers to sit the OISC Level 1 exam at no cost! We also have the opportunity for volunteers to assist with our specialist immigration advisers who work at OISC levels 2 and 3. Summary of duties: • Provide quality immigration advice to our beneficiaries on the EU Settlement Scheme via phone, email, or Facebook. • Maintain case records and follow good case management principles ensuring all client interactions are accurately recorded on our case management system, Charitylog. • Adhere to GDPR principles and practice when dealing with client data. • Attend training organised by Settled and keep an up to date working knowledge of the EUSS. Role requirements: • Confident with engaging with members of the public, many of whom may be distressed or in distressing situations. • A passion to support vulnerable people within the EU community. • Detail orientated and able to digest complex information and relay this to clients accessibly. • Regular time to commit to the role. Ideally, weekly, or fortnightly. Volunteering commitment for a minimum of 6 months is preferred. • Access to a computer and the internet. • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check. • Proficiency in one of the EU languages is preferred. Full training is provided. No previous advice experience necessary although any relevant experience is welcome.

Ukraine Adviser

Settled relies on our huge team of volunteers spread across the UK. We currently have around 100 volunteers, working across more than 20 European languages. Our volunteers help some of the most vulnerable Ukrainian citizens secure and access their rights in the UK. As a Ukrainian Adviser, you will have the chance to support Ukrainian citizens and their families with their status under the Ukrainian UK visa schemes and access associate rights. You will assist our Ukrainian lead adviser, a Ukrainian national herself and qualified solicitor. You will be assisting Yuliia provide quality immigration advice to beneficiaries and support with her cases. This volunteering role is home-based, writing email to clients and answering emails. As well as support around the Ukrainian visa schemes, you will be supporting beneficiaries with common associated issues impacting Ukrainian’s currently. Such as, housing placement breakdowns and navigating entitlement to welfare benefits. Training will be provided on the Ukrainian visa schemes and Settled’s service and systems. You will be working under the supervision of Yuliia so OISC (Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner) accreditation will not be required. You will gain new skills and confidence and will join a network of dedicated and positive volunteers of many nationalities and cultures! Summary of duties: • Support Yuliia to provide quality immigration advice and support to our beneficiaries on the Ukrainian visa schemes and associated rights via phone or email. • Maintain case records and follow good case management principles ensuring all client interactions are accurately recorded on our case management system, Charitylog. • Adhere to GDPR principles and practice when dealing with client data. • Attend training organised by Settled and keep an up to date working knowledge of the Ukrainian visa schemes and current issues impacting Ukrainian people resettling in the UK. Role requirements: • Confident with engaging with members of the public, many of whom may be distressed or in distressing situations. • A passion to support vulnerable people within the Ukrainian community. • Detail orientated and able to digest complex information and relay this to clients accessibly. • Regular time to commit to the role. Ideally, weekly, or fortnightly. Volunteering commitment for a minimum of 6 months is preferred. • Access to a computer and the internet. • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check. • Proficiency in English and Ukrainian is required. Russian language is optional. Full training is provided. No previous advice experience necessary although any relevant experience is welcome.
