VTO provides free one to one tuition to children and young people (aged 8-18) to help tackle the attainment gap in Scotland. We work with young people from diverse backgrounds including those from low income families, care experience, EAL, or those faced with perceived barriers to learning. Our volunteers are responsible for developing a person-centred tutoring experience online. A key part of this role is relationship building, mentoring, instilling confidence, and empowering young people through education. Volunteers from a range of diverse backgrounds and experiences are welcome. What will I be doing? • Working one-to-one with a young person who requires tutoring support online. • Relationship-building and mentoring • Instilling a growth mindset towards learning • Monitoring and recording progress of learning and keeping in contact with your assigned Learning Communities Coordinator • Take part in relevant training • Tutoring in English, Maths and potentially other subjects, dependent on experience • Sourcing and creating engaging ways to support pupils’ skills and learning

-WHO ARE WE? Cybersafe Scotland is an Aberdeen based social enterprise working to protect children online. Our current focus is reducing online abuse and harassment. Cybersafe works with schools, including classroom-based sessions working directly with children, as well as work with school staff, parents and carers. -WHY DO WE NEED VOLUNTEERS? During the school year from August 2024-June 2025 we have a programme of work in school including lessons delivered to classes P5 - P7. All these sessions are delivered by Cybersafe Scotland staff but we are look for volunteers to support their delivery, bringing extra support for the learners, and joy and care in keeping with our mission. -MAIN TASKS: • Assist Cybersafe staff in classroom sessions: • Setting up for lessons • Distributing handouts • Helping with practical demonstrations • Encouraging pupils in small group or individual work • Tidying up after lesson • Bringing joy -TIME Lessons will take place within school hours between 0900-1500 Monday to Friday. The classroom based sessions are about 1 hour for each class including set up and tidy up time but multiple lessons will be delivered in a school in any one day. The more lessons a volunteer can commit to the better as you will learn valuable knowledge and skills through each lesson. However as a minimum volunteers must be able to offer 21 hours, split over half day periods of 3 hours. Please indicate availability when applying. -QUALIFICATIONS No formal qualifications are required, however volunteers will have to successfully apply for a PVG certificate for working with children. An interest in working with children and young people and demonstrable experience in doing so will be required. An interest in the online world and knowledge and awareness of apps and games will be an advantage though this is not essential. -HOW TO APPLY This is a fantastic opportunity to help and all volunteers make a real difference and are greatly appreciated. By volunteering and tutoring for just one hour a week, you will be able to directly support disadvantaged young people to build their confidence and help ensure they leave school with the grades needed to build a bright future, as well as developing your own skills. And now you can volunteer with us as an online tutor to support pupils to reach their potential. Online tutoring is a great option for anyone on a busy schedule or those continuing to keep their distance from groups of people. He'll give you a good grasp of the basics. For 16-25 years of age this opportunity. - Volunteer in our café doing basic tasks like serving, stocking up, dishes, wiping tables, and learning how to use the coffee machine. - Help at our youth club, gaining tremendous experience working with primary-aged children. Friday 3.30-5.30pm - Support our lovely gaming club for primary-aged children, playing games, supervising and gaining important experience working with young people. Monday 4.30pm-6.30pm. - Volunteer at our Phoenix Club for adults with additional support needs, a really wonderful club where you will gain excellent experience in the social care sector. Mon 7-9pm. Thurs 1-3pm. - Take part in our amazing pensioners club on a Monday 12.45pm-3.15pm, where you’ll get a great understanding of working with 45 elderly people. It’s great fun! -Help us as a cleaner, keeping our building nice and tidy. You’ll meet loads of people of all ages, and it’s quite sociable too! Any day and time. - You might have IT skills that you want to put to good use but have not used those skills for some time. We have office work, and even teaching opportunities to pass on your skills. - Perhaps you have skills in advertising and haven’t had the chance to put them to good use for some time. We have lots of small DIY jobs across the centre, your help would be amazing. - Do you have music skills? Perhaps you’d like to get back into teaching, if so, this is the role for you. - Maybe you’d like to gain some basic skills in maintaining our fitness gym, and keeping it tidy? - We are looking for a general centre assistant to help set up rooms, tidy away, clean equipment, and keep our stores in good order. - Would you like to run a group and have a skill you’d like to pass onto others, such as knitting, sewing, art. - We are looking for people to assist our new men’s social group, playing pool, cards, dominoes. - We have a wonderful charity called Future Choices on a Tuesday, working with adults with physical disabilities and health problems. They’d love your support. Tuesday 11am-1.30pm. - Minibus driver for our pensioners club. You may have a completely different idea of how you’d like to get involved, and we’d love to gain your ideas. -SUPPORT FROM ABZWorks. There’s lots of support from the good folks at ABZWorks, where they have keyworkers who’ll help you along your journey, no matter what stage you are at. There are no obligations on your behalf, other than just signing up with them to hear what they can do for you.
