Description

The Stroke Association Stroke Groups Network provide long term social and peer support to people affected by stroke.
They organise online meetings to reduce social isolation, loneliness and rebuild the confidence of members.
Stroke group volunteers assist in the running of these Scotland wide online groups and help support the group members.

Organisation aims and objectives

To help people rebuild their lives after stroke by providing peer support, information and access to our resources for example: peer support groups, online stroke cafes, here for you telephone support, our online resource - My Stroke Guide, helpline, website, research and policy and influencing. We fund significant research in Scotland. We have the Renfrewshire Stroke & Carers Welcome Cafe, providing peer support and access to information and resources. Our goals are to : A. Make stroke the priority it needs to be B. Ensure that everyone affected by stroke has access to the rehabilitation and lifelong support they need. C. Partner with people and communities to help them take action on stroke.

Frequency and commitment details

Volunteer would be available on a Thursday morning from 10 to 12 to open the online zoom meetings and attend he full meeting. Volunteers would also be available for online training and support meetings.

Restrictions

Experience required: Be comfortable with communicating with people and helping to support them at meetings. Have a friendly and approachable manner. Confident in using the internet. Further support and training can be provided. Have an understanding or interest of stroke and its effects. Want to raise awareness of support and prevention of a stroke in your community. This role would be particularly interesting for anyone with lived experience of stroke as a survivor, family member, friend or carer. However all experience is valuable and everyone is welcome to apply.
Travel details: Not require as this is an online volunteering opportunity. However, there may be occasion to attend a face to face volunteer meeting and this would be arranged with volunteers in plenty of time,
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses details: No travel is involved with this volunteer opportunity. However, there may be an occasion where you will be invited to an event and travel expenses would be reimbursed.
Taster details: An opportunity to have an informal discussion about aspects of this role if this would be helpful.
Training details: All our training is completed online and can fit with the volunteers availability.
