Overview of the Tech volunteer role All across the UK our 350+ volunteers support older and/or disabled people in their communities to offer one-to-one support with their technology, whether that’s a computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet. Our volunteers: • Troubleshoot technical issues • Offer impartial advice on technology • Set up new tech and install hardware and software • Show people how to use their tech at home e.g. shop online, send and receive emails and video call with family and friends • Make adaptations to support a disabled person’s specific technology needs What will I be doing? • Contacting clients to arrange a date/time to support (could include, home visits, meetings in libraries, cafes etc. supporting them remotely online or attending group sessions). • Carrying out tech support for the clients you have accepted. • Feeding back on progress via our online ticketing system. • Supporting your local Coordinator with promoting the volunteer service in the local area. • Getting together with other tech volunteers at team meetings and wider company events. • Attending training on technology, particularly adaptive technology. • Supporting other volunteers through our online chat facility What are the benefits to me? The IT and Technology Support Specialist Volunteer at Mamacita Foundation plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth technology operations and supporting the organization's digital infrastructure. Volunteers we need you, with you inspiration and motivation to serve as a board member on the Management Board of HALLA (Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association). We are a Board of people who run daytime and evening classes at Kaimhill Learning Centre. We have a FB page ( @HALLACommunity) where you can see some of our activities and tutored classes. We meet once a month to discuss new opportunities and management issues, to find new ways of how-to bring people of all ages in the local community into the centre. We have several weekly, social, informal learning groups where Board members can get to know each other and form a friendly working relationship. A volunteer should be passionate, enthusiastic and have a keen interest in community matters. A volunteer does not necessarily require specific skills since we all support each other to develop new skills but if you have specific ones, it would be good to introduce them to the rest of the Board so we can use them to benefit the local community. The Board would appreciate people with knowledge of IT and office procedures but enthusiasm and interest in the community are equally important. The Comradeship Circles service aims to reduce loneliness by offering older members of the ex-service community the opportunity to enjoy regular group camaraderie by telephone. A Comradeship Circle will host typically six people on the same day and time each week to chat about a range of topics and interests over the phone. A Volunteer Facilitator or Supervisor will be on every call to encourage discussion and ensure the conversation flows. We are looking for Technical Support Volunteers who will ensure the smooth running of the Comradeship Circle by connecting veterans to the call, monitoring connection throughout the hour, and updating the contact management database. This role is home based and requires access to a laptop, headphones and the internet. Main tasks include dialling in the veterans and connecting them to the circle an updating the charity database. 1-2 hours per week at the same time each week (with some flexibility for cover) over a 6 month minimum period.
