Mortuary Chapel Western Cemetery Arbroath DD11 4HA • The Mortuary Chapel was designed by Patrick Allan-Fraser as a memorial to his late wife Elizabeth and her deceased parents John Fraser and Elizabeth Parrot Fraser. Work began in 1875 based on an outline plan by Allan-Fraser to which he added details as building progressed. • Everyone who visits quickly realises that this is a remarkable building, possibly the most unusual and most instantly appealing of the many fine buildings within Arbroath. However, it is also very important on a national scale. It could claim to be one of the best buildings of its date in Scotland. • The building is also notable for its eclectic mix of styles, including reference to Scottish, English and possibly other precedents from East European Gothic. Every part of the building is important because every part received great care in design. • The Mortuary Chapel is located in the Western Cemetery. Tours will be available at 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm, led by Hospitalfield Volunteer Tour Guides. Booking is not required for this venue, however access will be by tour only. • The chapel has one step on entering and the upper levels are up a number of stairs. Dogs are not allowed inside the mortuary chapel (unless an assistance/guide dog).

Become part of the long and wonderful volunteering history at Thirlestane Castle by being a member of the team that brings its heritage to life for everyone to share. Thirlestane Castle is open to the public for guided tours from May to September, and for private guided tours the rest of the year. We receive five-star reviews for our guided tours which are delivered with passion and often humour by our guides who help to bring to life the castle’s long history. If you have an interest in history and enjoy engaging with the public, you may like to become a tour guide. Any time that our guides can give is appreciated but as a guideline, we recommend committing to a minimum of two sessions per month – each session lasting up to 4 hours. However, this is totally flexible and will depend upon your own commitments.

Dundonald Castle is a 14th Century hilltop fortified ruin which is looked after on a daily basis by The Friends of Dundonald Castle SCIO, who also manage the attraction’s Visitor Centre. We are currently looking for Volunteer Tour Guides to take members of the public on tours of the castle. If you are a people person with a passion for history this could be the opportunity for you. Tasks will include: - Telling the fascinating story of the castle and the castle hill - Undertaking castle opening and closing procedures and daily cleaning

Greyfriars Kirk has been welcoming over 50,000 visitors from around the world, every year. We are looking for volunteer Welcomers to join our team. In a nutshell, your role will be to greet our visitors and ensure their experience with us is unique and welcoming. Sound like fun? It’s your job to personalise their visit by sharing your knowledge, encouraging their questions, assisting them in the gift shop, and making everyone feel welcome!
