The Kincorth Community Centre Hub has great volunteer opportunities to assist with a range of activities at the Hub. Volunteer roles include supporting our busy community cafe, which has rapidly taken off, we currently open 9.30 -2.30, but our aim is to run a breakfast and supper club, as well as have the cafe open for activities in the evening. We have a diverse community that has a lot to offer e.g.: art classes/exercise group/dance class/music lessons and we are always open to new ideas-we are more or less a blank canvass. Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteers. Level 2 Hygiene Certificate will be offered to those who want to volunteer/cook in the café. Any other training would be reviewed and provided if proved relevant. A fantastic, enjoyable opportunity to volunteer and help make a real difference for people and the community. Could you offer an hour per week, to support a young adult in Midlothian? "Grandmentors" is an award winning mentoring programme, matching Volunteer Mentors who have a range of life skills and experience, with young adults aged 16-26 who are care experienced or who face a range of other life challenges or barriers. Grandmentors launched in Midlothian in 2023. Our Volunteer Mentors help young adults to navigate the transition into adulthood, guiding and helping them learn valuable life skills such as managing their finances, accessing Employment, Education and Training, and supporting their physical and mental health and wellbeing. Normally our Volunteer Mentors are aged 50+ and have skills and life experience to offer. However, if you are younger than 50 and feel you could offer time to support a younger adult, we would love to hear from you too! It is important that you have good people and communication skills, patience, and can offer a regular commitment of at least an hour per week (or a couple of hours per fortnight). Full training and support will be given throughout your volunteering experience as a Mentor! We will also re-imburse any volunteer expenses costs that you incur. Interested in finding out more? We're looking for an adult volunteer who will provide a supportive friendship for a socially isolated young person aged between 8 and 18 who lives in South Ayrshire. Ideally this will involve meeting with their young person every couple of weeks for a few hours, spending time together accessing local activities. This includes: • Be matched on a 1:1 basis with a young person. • Go on regular outings and activities with the young person. • Have the opportunity to participate in group outings/activities and also volunteer support sessions. • Keeping in touch with the Project about the young person’s achievements / growth and activities, and to receive ongoing support from the Bfriend team. • Open minded as we work with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds. • Following training, to be able to have empathy and understanding of some of the issues encountered by young people referred to the team. • Continuous focus on the needs of the young person who you are matched with. • Willing to participate in a broad range of activities mutually agreed with the young person. • To be a positive adult role model for the young person and, very importantly, to have FUN! • Have an awareness of and be able to adhere to Bfriend’s policies and procedures.
