Merchandise Sales for the OH!CON Comic Con:
• Look after OH!CON merch table
• Sell items and process card sales on SUM UP system
• Record cash sales
• Answer queries and point people to activities as needed
• Take responsibility for all sales items, look for t-shirt sizes, etc.
• Sell raffle tickets
• Keep register for the cosplay masquerades

Organisation aims and objectives

OH!CON was established in 2020 to organise and run a comic con for the Outer Hebrides. It has grown to now include several supporting activities throughout the year. The con is an annual event and the date for this year is Saturday 12 October 2024. OH!CON celebrates nerd and popular culture through a programme of events and activities inspired by comics, art, science fiction, fantasy, film, animation, gaming, design, prop making, cosplay and other creative pursuits. OH!CON supports a diverse, inclusive audience and addresses social isolation by a gathering for like-minded people of all ages.

Volunteers will need to make themselves available for a few hours training before the comic con, and would be willing to do a shift of at least 5 hours on the day of the con, Saturday 12 October. Subsistence will be provided.

Restrictions

Experience required: No specific experience is required, but some customer service experience would be an advantage. Volunteers will need to use their initiative to wander around a venue to be visible and recognise if someone needs assistance or recognise if an issue needs to be resolved. There will always be support via the registration desk.
Travel details: The comic con will take place in Stornoway town centre. Volunteers should be able to make their own way to the event.

Expenses details: No expenses but all subsistence provided, plus a follow up thank you celebration.

Hub/Coffee Shop support for LGBT+ Charity

We are looking for more amazing volunteers to join our Four Pillars team to help support the organisations daily operations. They would primarily help run our Coffee Shop and in turn support the LGBT+ Community who use this service. Volunteers would be an extension of the staff and asked to help meet and greet service users making any new visitors feel welcome and sharing information of any groups or events taking place which may be of interest to them. Many of our service users live alone, and have little family or friends to support them, so seeing a friendly face and being given the chance to have a cuppa and a chat for a few hours is invaluable to them. We have various groups which are held each evening, and these are peer lead, and run by our volunteers. These are closed sessions, so offer a safe, confidential environment for anyone attending. Volunteers support our staff to ensure the Coffee Shop and toilets are kept clean and tidy, throughout the day. They may also be asked support any events we run throughout the year. The largest event we run is Grampian Pride. Volunteers would be notified of any other one off opportunities by the Volunteer Coordinator as well as being invited to attend any of the internal or external training sessions which may take place. They can also participate in the brand new RAVE Scheme (Rainbow Award 4 Volunteer Excellence) which is an activity rewards system to recognise and encourage volunteer dedication and skill development within the organisation. Shetland Cat Rescue Volunteer

A wide range of opportunities are available and include: Fosterers – a spare room to care for a cat until a new home is found. All equipment and food etc provided. Home checkers – visiting prospective new cat owners. Fostering support and co ordination – helping fosterers and organising cat food distribution, equipment etc Equipment inventory – keeping an up to date list of all equipment and its location. Helpline – taking phone calls from the public. Food store coordinator – making sure fosterers have sufficient food of an appropriate type and caring for supplies. Kitten socialising – assisting fosterers to socialise young kittens to meeting different people and get used to them. TNR Trap, Neuter and Return – trapping feral cats, taking them to the vets to be neutered and then releasing them back to site. Involves learning about the colony and getting them used to being fed in a trap; arranging neutering with the vets; keeping the cats safe until fully recovered and able to rejoin the colony; arranging for kittens young enough to be socialised to be fostered. Transport – cats to vets etc; goods and equipment to where needed. Collecting and sorting donated goods. Storing donated goods, equipment and cat food. Fundraiser – to organise fundraising events. On line auctions – organise online auctions of donated goods. Stall helpers – assisting on stalls. Crafts – making crafts to sell. Grant applications – find and apply for appropriate grants and funding. Sunday tea staff – assisting at Sunday teas. Trustee – joining the trustees. Marketing. DIY – DIY skills to help maintain pens and equipment

Tech Wizards

Narture was founded in June 2020 by artist father and daughter team Robert and Saskia Singer. The project evolved initially from occupying empty town centre spaces and re-purposing them for cultural and creative uses. Nurturing a thriving and successful social enterprise, where 'everyone is an artist' and are encouraged to use their creative energies towards positive change. Narture’s ultimate goal is to become a truly inclusive creative hive, making participatory cultural activities available to all members of society. Narture’s award winning Sourdough Bakery and acclaimed Artisan Café, are currently the core income generators of the social enterprise. The bakery specialises in handmade sourdough produce, baked daily; championing sustainable, healthy ingredients and supporting local businesses and was recently awarded Bread Bakery of the Year by Prestige Scotland for the second year running. Our purpose is to bake real bread to earn the dough to support arts projects.
