Description

St John Scotland is looking for volunteer drivers aged between 21-80 to support our patient transport service.
St John Scotland works in partnership with NHS Forth Valley to provide patient transport for people attending renal clinics. As a Patient Transport Driver, it will be your role to transport renal patients to and from the Renal Unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH) in Larbert. This service is completely free to patients. Drivers will need access to their own car and all vehicles and drivers require full insurance subject to a driving assessment and PVG.

Organisation aims and objectives

St John Scotland was established in 1947 and is associated with St John Ambulance, and St John International which operates in 44 different countries throughout the world. St John Scotland support community health resilience to help improve the lives of people in need. With volunteers spread throughout Scotland, we work Nationally, and Locally, to support communities to save lives, by offering Bystander CPR Awareness sessions, the roll out and installation of Public Access Defibrillators, Patient Transport Services, and supporting Community First Responders. We also fund Scottish Mountain Rescue teams, and support the St John Scotland Mountain Safety Instructor Scheme. St John Scotland support essential sight saving work at the St John Eye Hospital in Jerusalem, and run health projects operated by St John Malawi. By working together, we can save lives.

Frequency and commitment details

Volunteers are asked to make a regular commitment to the role which is flexible around their own availability.

Restrictions

Lower age is an insurance requirement for the volunteering role.
Experience required: • You must be between 21 – 80 years old • Hold a full driving licence (and a min. of 2 years full licence) and be a competent driver with no more than 3 points • Outgoing and welcoming personality • Ability to communicate with patients and fellow drivers accordingly • Great sense of responsibility and commitment • Able to record mileage and expenses
Travel details: Volunteer drivers collect passengers from their homes at a pre-arranged time, convey them to the clinic and return them home after treatment.

Training details: Volunteers will be fully inducted into the role, undertake volunteer training, an informal driving assessment and continuous training is offered for all volunteers.
