If you have time to support a local charity, we want to hear from you! Home-Start Aberdeen are looking for enthusiastic and energetic volunteers to meet and greet customers, organise donations and take cash and card payments at our city-centre charity shop at 101 George Street Aberdeen.

In return we offer:

Organisation aims and objectives

We are one of Scotland’s largest Home-Start schemes, providing up to 180 families and 270 children with 27,500 hours of emotional and practical support in their own homes each year. Home-Start Aberdeen works with families to help them: •gain access to relevant health and welfare services •manage family budgets and nutrition •engage with their communities •enjoy family life again.

Restrictions

Experience required: No experience necessary. The willingness to commit time and energy to Home-Start Aberdeen, with a positive attitude to meeting new people and learning new skills.
Travel details: Our shop is at 101 George Street, Aberdeen – directly across from the old John Lewis store.
Minimum age: 16

Donations Assistants

Somebody Cares is a local charity who furnish homes, provide clothing, baby equipment, toys and food parcels to those in need within our city and shire. Through referral from many local support services, charities, social workers and the local councils, clients are able to access our services completely free of charge. By demonstrating empathy and support, our aim is to provide a helping hand to those who are facing challenging times, by offering hope and providing then with essential and practicable items which they otherwise couldn’t afford to purchase. Our greatest wish is that after receiving our support our clients can gain confidence, flourish and begin to escape the poverty trap. We work with men, woman and children from many different backgrounds, and our services are accessed by many support services including Aberdeen City Council, Cornhill Hospital, Grampians Women’s Aid, Barnardo’s, Children’s 1st, Turning Point Scotland, Langstane Housing, Shmu, Children and Family Services, Social Bite, Drugs and Alcohol Awareness and many medical professionals. We fund our charitable work by selling some of our donated items at our very busy retail megastore at Hazeldene Road, Aberdeen. (Old Dobbie’s building). The Megastore has many gems and bargains and has a strong local clientele who visit the store on a regular basis. We are looking for volunteers to help us sort through many of the donated items ready for sale. We are flexible with hours and days and are looking for enthusiastic people with a heart for making a difference to join our friendly team. A fantastic opportunity to help. Team Volunteer

Come and join our cause any time of the year. You don't have to wait up till Christmas to help make a real difference to the lives of families in Ayrshire. Volunteering with Night Before Christmas is a meaningful way to help some of Ayrshire’s most vulnerable children and families. It’s also an opportunity to develop and enjoy new experiences. You’ll connect with your community, meet new people, learn new skills and share what you know. All our voluntary roles are supported: people come first. We’ll give you an induction and relevant training, and you’ll always have space to raise issues. You don’t need specific skills for many of our roles. All we ask for is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. Food Pantry Customer Assistant

Your role as the Food Pantry Customer Assistant is to help customers who come into the Food Pantry, offering information and assistance as they are enquiring, browsing or purchasing food. Our Food Pantry is the first one in South Ayrshire based in Ayr Town Centre. A Pantry is a membership scheme aimed at helping people make their money go further by reducing their food shopping bills and providing advice and support. Local Pantries mean people can bring down their food shopping bills, and access good food, whilst freeing up more money for other essentials and enabling tight budgets to stretch a little further. A Pantry offers dignity, choice, community and food quality. Your role will be to assist new and current members learn about the Pantry and do their shopping. We will give you full training on how it works, equipment used, systems to follow etc. You will always be volunteering as part of a team of volunteers with a staff team leader present. As there will be a café on the premises, there will be an opportunity to benefit from Barista training. DUTIES: The role of the Food Pantry Customer Assistant will be as follows: • Assist customers to the Pantry, engaging in conversation • Offer information on how the Pantry works • Offer signposting to other services where necessary • Operate till with cash / card handling • Restock and rotate shelves and fridges as required • Clean and sanitise according to guidance • To commit to a minimum of 3.5hrs per week

Volunteer Mentor

Are you 18+ living in Glasgow/North Lanarkshire and looking to make a difference to a young person in their community? Do you have 1-2 hours spare per week? Are you care experienced yourself or working towards a career in social care? Do you want to gain valuable experience, make a positive change, be part of a likeminded community all whilst having fun? We would love to hear from you! No experience necessary - just an open mind, kindness and compassion! Our service matches volunteer mentors to young people aged between 8-14years who are on the edge of care, in a kinship arrangement or on a CSO. Our mentees are looking for a person to build and grow a positive relationship, try new activities, tackle isolation, build confidence and have fun in the community! We provide in person training, ongoing support and a community of mentors who are there to share experiences. We are there to support you every step of the way! Our service covers all of Glasgow and North Lanarkshire, having a car is desirable but not essential. *This role requires 2 days of training in house and subject to PVG check*
