This is an opportunity to work as part of a team, learn new skills and make new friends. The role consists of working with three other volunteers to serve lunches at our R.V.S Lunch Club held at Islesburgh daily. Islesburgh lunch club runs from Monday to Fridays and is open 12-1, Volunteers arrive in advance to set up tables and stay a short while after to clear away the tables. Duties include: Collecting orders / handling money / serving meals / setting up and clearing down tables / chatting with older people / offering dementia friendly support / reporting any concerns of an older persons welfare.

The Caf4e & Company Lunch Club is working with Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership to address the problem of social isolation among older people in Bridge of Don. The Lunch Club runs once a fortnight on Fridays and provides a nutritious hot meal along with activities and entertainment and the opportunity for members and volunteers to socialise and develop friendships. Volunteers benefit as they find themselves involved in a community where they are able to help others but also receive support, encouragement and friendship. We provide a warm and welcoming environment and volunteers are able to choose which tasks suit them best – driving, social interaction & hosting tables, practical tasks, befriending. Volunteering with Night Before Christmas is a meaningful way to help some of Ayrshire’s most vulnerable children and families. It’s also an opportunity to develop and enjoy new experiences. You’ll connect with your community, meet new people, learn new skills and share what you know. All our voluntary roles are supported: people come first. We’ll give you an induction and relevant training, and you’ll always have space to raise issues. You don’t need specific skills for many of our roles. All we ask for is enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. There’s only a small level of commitment, to suit your availability. Each volunteer will sign up ABZWorks to gain a whole range of practical positive support on CV making, possible training if you require it, and information about various employment opportunities in the city.bThere are no obligations, no costs, no impact on your benefits, only positives where you have new doors opening for you, and our centre gains your fantastic help. -CRITERIA It’s very straightforward, and again, the level of commitment is wholly your decision, but to gain the new skills and confidence, we do suggest no less than 6 weeks. • You can’t be in employment. • You can’t be in training. • You can’t be in education. • You have to live in Aberdeen city. • You must be aged 16-67 years of age. • Have the right to work and live in the UK. -SOME VOLUNTEERING ROLES…BUT THERE’S PLENTY MORE! - Would you like to learn from our wonderful chef Garry, who's looking to teach someone how to become a chef. He'll give you a good grasp of the basics. For 16-25 years of age this opportunity. - Volunteer in our café doing basic tasks like serving, stocking up, dishes, wiping tables, and learning how to use the coffee machine. - Help at our youth club, gaining tremendous experience working with primary-aged children. Friday 3.30-5.30pm - Support our lovely gaming club for primary-aged children, playing games, supervising and gaining important experience working with young people. Monday 4.30pm-6.30pm. - Volunteer at our Phoenix Club for adults with additional support needs, a really wonderful club where you will gain excellent experience in the social care sector. Mon 7-9pm. Thurs 1-3pm. - Take part in our amazing pensioners club on a Monday 12.45pm-3.15pm, where you’ll get a great understanding of working with 45 elderly people. It’s great fun! -Help us as a cleaner, keeping our building nice and tidy. You’ll meet loads of people of all ages, and it’s quite sociable too! Any day and time. - You might have IT skills that you want to put to good use but have not used those skills for some time. We have office work, and even teaching opportunities to pass on your skills. - Perhaps you have skills in advertising and haven’t had the chance to put them to good use for some time. We have lots of small DIY jobs across the centre, your help would be amazing. - Do you have music skills? Perhaps you’d like to get back into teaching, if so, this is the role for you. - Maybe you’d like to gain some basic skills in maintaining our fitness gym, and keeping it tidy? - We are looking for a general centre assistant to help set up rooms, tidy away, clean equipment, and keep our stores in good order. - Would you like to run a group and have a skill you’d like to pass onto others, such as knitting, sewing, art. - We are looking for people to assist our new men’s social group, playing pool, cards, dominoes. - We have a wonderful charity called Future Choices on a Tuesday, working with adults with physical disabilities and health problems. They’d love your support. Tuesday 11am-1.30pm. - Minibus driver for our pensioners club. You may have a completely different idea of how you’d like to get involved, and we’d love to gain your ideas. -SUPPORT FROM ABZWorks. There’s lots of support from the good folks at ABZWorks, where they have keyworkers who’ll help you along your journey, no matter what stage you are at. There are no obligations on your behalf, other than just signing up with them to hear what they can do for you.
