Reliable kind helper required for Bumps to Babies group meets each Monday between 1pm and 2.30 pm. Small friendly group for very new Mums and Mums-to-be, to meet up, make friends and enjoy occasional activities/visitors. General Helper, to support our Bumps to Babies Co-ordinator to deliver a weekly informal support group for very new Mums and Mums-to-be. Skills/Experience required: Practical skills and common sense, together with kindness and a good sense of humour are the most important skills. Experience with babies and young children would be an advantage but not essential. This is a small social group, and good communication skills with a kind and gentle nature and interest in others would be desirable. Able to set out toys and floor mats, tidy them away after use, make coffee and tea in flasks as and when required, also participate in occasional craft and group activities.

Have you ever thought about giving back to your community? Your help could provide a safe space for Children & Young People to go each week to Learn, Grow and Discover. As a volunteer you will assist our leaders in facilitating a wide variety of activities for children in P1 to S6. Our Loanhead company meet Wednesdays from 6pm for kids in P1 to P6 and Thursdays from 7pm for young people P7 to S6. Each meeting varies but typical activities include games, sports, arts, crafts and skill-based activities that go toward the achievements programme. Not to mention going on outings, camps and participating in local events. With more volunteers we will be able to do more much activities and allow more children & young people to come along and join the fun. All we ask is that our volunteers are enthusiastic, committed and enjoy working with children and young people. We would not expect you to attend both evenings each week but would ask you to commit to attending one regularly. All volunteers must have PVG clearance which we will facilitate.

Do you enjoy meeting new people and are interested in Orkney’s wildlife? Species on the Edge Event Helper could be the volunteer role for you! Species on the Edge is an exciting conservation programme working across Scotland and our Orkney team are looking for volunteers to help with their events. Why we need you: Species on the Edge is a partnership of NatureScot and seven conservation charities dedicated to improving the future of 37 of the rarest and most threatened species on Scotland’s coasts and islands. Orkney is one of seven Species on the Edge project areas, and the team are working to protect nine target species across the county: Great yellow bumblebee; curlew; lapwing; Arctic tern; little tern; plantain leaf beetle; common pipistrelle bat; oysterplant; and Scottish primrose. These species are all struggling and in decline and our islands are some of their last strongholds. We need your help to share your passion for Orkney’s wildlife with others by volunteering as an event helper. What you will do: • Welcoming and talking to people at our festival stands, nature events, wildlife walks, wildflower planting and community talks to inspire others to protect nature in Orkney. • Creating and producing resources, helping us promote events on social media, putting up posters, and setting up and taking down equipment. What will you gain? • Opportunities to meet new people and visit new places in Orkney. • A chance to see and learn more about Orkney's important wildlife. • Hands on experience of organising, running, and managing events. • Developing skills in communication and community engagement. • Experience of working within the conservation sector connecting people to nature in Orkney. • Training and support and being part of the friendly Orkney team. • Being part of the Species on the Edge programme making a difference for species, nature, and the environment.
