Description

Castle Furniture Befriending are keen to recruit volunteers to support activity within their Elderly Befriending Drop in lounge. The lounge is open every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 12-3pm. This is a great place for elderly people in Cupar and nearby areas to meet up in a warm space to socialise, play games and share stories. Tea’s, Coffees and biscuits are provided free of charge. Castle Furniture Befriending are looking for wonderful volunteers to help oversee the day to day running of the lounge and provide social support to those who attend as well as assist on any yearly outings.

Organisation aims and objectives

* To provide support and therapeutic work placements to those recovering from a mental health illness. * To provide training opportunities and work placements to enable local unemployed or disadvantaged people to re-enter the labour market and regain self-worth in the process. * To bring together people who wouldn't usually meet to do things they wouldn't usually do. * To relieve poverty and distress.

Restrictions

Experience required: No previous experience required and full training will be provided. Desired skills and qualities of volunteers include: -Being a caring listener for people -Reliability to commit to agreed times -Motivation to make a positive impact on elderly lives in Cupar -Drive to help build confidence in clients and promote the lounge -Understanding the importance of confidentiality
Travel details: Takes place at the Befriending drop in lounge located next to the furniture warehouse/shop. Castle Furniture Project, Tom Rogers Mill, East Burnside, Cupar, Fife, KY15 4DQ

Expenses details: Yes - Mileage paid at 40p per mile or public transport cost paid
Training details: All volunteers will be initially provided with around 1-2 hours induction covering everything from role specifics, Expectations and Boundaries, Health and Safety, Manual Handling and everything else needed to succeed in the role. PVG checks will be carried out by Castle Furniture at no cost to the volunteer. Continued support will be provided throughout by the coordinator and opportunities for continual ongoing training depending on the needs of the role and personal interests.
