Ward Volunteer (Community Hospitals)

Description

NHS Community Hospitals are looking for volunteers to assist nursing staff in the ward environment by carrying out a range of non-clinical tasks and activities. This may include:

-Assisting in the preparation and serving of refreshments to patients, assisting patients to complete menu cards, handing out cutlery and crockery, serving tea/coffee, refreshing water jugs.

-Assisting patients under the direction and guidance from staff at mealtimes with serving refreshments, opening sandwich packets. This role will not involve any patient feeding.

-Engaging with patients to provide company and stimulation: games such as dominoes and cards, reading with/to patients, conversational visits.

-Helping to make the ward a safe and welcoming environment.

Restrictions

Experience required: Good listening and communication skills. No experience is necessary as training will be given. Patience, understanding and sensitivity to the needs of patients in hospital and their relatives. To be motivated in the volunteering activities undertaken. Ability to interact with the healthcare team. To maintain confidentiality at all times.
Travel details: Adamson Hospital, Cupar Cameron Hospital, Windygates Glenrothes Hospital St Andrews Hospital All venues are accessible by public transport with onsite parking.

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: Public Transport costs and a commuting rate of 0.28 pence per mile.
Training details: Volunteer Induction covering aspects such as Confidentiality & Health and Safety Infection Prevention and Control module x 2 NHS Fife Fire Safety Dementia Friends Training as required for the volunteer role e.g. wheelchair training
