Week by week, our volunteers inspire and provide #SkillsForLife for young people aged 4-25. We support Scouting in the Borders, Braid, Craigalmond, East Lothian, Edinburgh North East, Midlothian and Pentland areas Our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts learn new skills, make new friends and stand on their own two feet. They’re supported by our everyday heroes - adult volunteers who shape young people’s lives for the better and find out a whole lot about themselves in the process, too. You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races, and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers, and skill sharers. We’re talking about minibus drivers and first aiders. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family. Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the local town hall, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread a group of very hungry eleven-year olds - no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great. We provide the training. You show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life. As long as you're over 18, you can help out as an adult volunteer in Scouting. Don’t fancy working directly with young people? We also have roles in governance, administration, planning, social media and much more! Get in touch with your local group and offer your skills/time. There is no upper age limit for adult volunteers. Sounds fun? Worthwhile? It is. Food and Fun was introduced by the Council as a pilot to deliver free meals and activities to children in key areas of Aberdeen during school holiday periods and has been rolled out on a permanent basis. Over Christmas, as an extension of the project, special events were hosted for young people to enjoy the festivities – from ice skating and crafts to a disco and visit to Santa. For everyone involved in Food and Fun there’s a busy period ahead. The main aim is to ensure children continue to be fed, recognising the importance of school meals during term time for a large number of families, and also to provide the opportunity to take part in physical activity in a nurturing environment. The initiative has been recognised with awards – but the reward and motivation for the many people who have put their heart and soul into developing the programme is in the positive impact there is on children, families and communities. When we talk about our purpose – about caring for our city and our people – we think Food and Fun is a shining example that we can all be incredibly proud of. Many participants obtain great life skills which has assisted them in securing other opportunities as well as the personal development and satisfaction that this also brings. Dyce & Stoneywood Community Association is looking to recruit volunteers to help us with our programme, These opportunities are: • Running exercise classes such as Technogym: Technogym is a light exercise class with the use of machines to help people of low fitness get back into exercising. You will need to go through a 2 hour training session for health and safety. These classes run weekly and you will be working alongside another volunteer to help with running the class and cover. • Movie Club: We run a monthly movie club and would require someone who enjoys movies to help run this for us. • Youth Activities: such as Lego club and potential summer and holiday activities. PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups check/scheme membership) will be required. Fantastic opportunities to help and make a real difference for people and the community. Our organisation offers multiple trips throughout the year, with mentors available to provide support. We partner with other organizations to offer placements in Ghana, Romania, and potentially Eastern European countries, each with a unique set of activities and tasks that focus on developing various skills.
