Basketball Coach

Description

Across schools in Dundee, Active Schools provide extra-curricular activities for children in primary and secondary schools. Focusing on sports and physical activity this can be children’s first experience of sports.

With a focus on getting the inactive active, we are keen to provide more children with the opportunity to play basketball within the Grove Academy Primary Cluster (Eastern PS, Barnhill PS, Craigebarns PS, or Forthill PS).

We are looking for keen coaches to deliver sessions of basketball.

Organisation aims and objectives

The projects main philosophy has been to create opportunities for children and young people from Dundee’s most deprived areas to participate in physical activity and sport, along with using sport as a tool to raise attainment levels, increase employability prospects and reduce anti-social behaviour levels. The team delivers 6 main programmes; Participation Programme, Diversionary Programme, Learn Thru Sport Programme, Springboard Programme, Volunteer Development Programme and Holiday Programme.

Experience required: Previous coaching experience in basketball Working with children Able to lead as an individual Plan and deliver sessions Motivated and enthusiastic about getting children active
Travel details: Grove Academy.
Minimum age: 18

Taster details: We can get the volunteer along to another session in which they can shadow or just observe
Training details: Coaches will go through an introduction and followed up by regular catch ups to ensure the individuals are supported. Opportunities to attend courses will be on offer to upskill the volunteer.

The responsibilities of an Assistant Basketball Coach is to support and deliver fundamental basketball skills to players at a high level, including supporting team sportsmanship, encouraging players enjoyment in the sport, and providing mentorship. To be successful as an Assistant Basketball Coach, you should have an awareness of basketball and its rules and have good communication skills. Ideally an Assistant Basketball Coach should be in good physical condition and have good leadership skills.

Basketball Coach Support

Fife Steel Basketball Club (FSBC) are looking for enthusiastic basketball Coach Support volunteers to help with the delivery of basketball for players during practice, including the delivery of basic basketball skills to players at a high level, including supporting team sportsmanship, encouraging players enjoyment in the sport. To be successful as a Coach Support, you should have an awareness of basketball and have good communication skills. Ideally a Coach Support should be physically active and have good leadership skills. FSBC are looking for Coach Supports who can enthuse players of various ages through different evening training sessions during the week, and/or who can run "After School or Lunch Time" sessions with the support from other Coaches. FSBC delivers sessions to a wide group of abilities & ages from 7-76 year olds, for all genders. Training sessions start with the Under 10s through to Fife Steel Men who compete a local and regional level.

Volunteer planter and flowerbed maintenance

Be part of a small team who 'Adopt a Station' - Aviemore Train station to oversee the planting and watering of flower beds around Aviemore Train Station throughout the year. An important station in the Highlands, it prides itself in welcoming many visitors throughout the year. First impressions last - and this team would like to hear from you if you have an interest in creating some beautiful planters, can do some painting and generally work well with other people.
