Description

You will be joinging our friendly team who run the Museum on a purly voluntary basis. The role involves weloming visitors to our Musuem; Explaining exhibits and talking about the local history of Dalbeattie and the surrounding area. Prior knowledge of this is not required as you will pick things up a long the way.

Organisation aims and objectives

The Museum is open from April until October. Opening times are Monday - Saturday 11 am. - 4 p.m.; Sunday open 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. The organisation's purposes are: The advancement of education of the public in the history of Dalbeattie The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science. To extend, enhance and maintain a collection of social historic materials; preserve and restore other materials for the purpose of public display; and to carry out works for the improvement and development of the museum.

Heritage Visitor Guide

Kirkcaldy Old Kirk Trust is responsible for preserving and maintaining Kirkcaldy Old Kirk as a community venue, heritage centre and community music hub. The Trust is looking to grow their team with Visitor Guides. The Heritage Visitor Guide may show visitors round Kirkcaldy Old Kirk, conduct tours of the graveyard or act as an Exhibition Guide. Activities include learning about the history of the Old Kirk and sharing this with visitors. Guides may take visitors up the old tower to ring the bell, conduct “Stories on Stones” tours of the graveyard or show visitors the highlights of the Old Kirk, including the spectacular stained-glass windows. Alternatively, the volunteer may carry out research and help set up exhibitions and new heritage tours. There are also opportunities for volunteers with sewing skills to make costumes for “Living History” events if they wish.

Visitor Guide

The Museum of Communication aims to study, collect, preserve and exhibit items that tell the story of communication from the days of pre-electric telegraph to the latest state-of-the-art technology. The museum is run entirely by volunteers, and they are looking to grow their team with Visitor Guides. As a Visitor Guide, you will speak with members of the public that come to the museum, guide them through and explain exhibitions, and answer any questions that they have about items in the museum. The museum has permanent exhibitions as well as new temporary exhibitions every summer. PAD Lead - Scottish Borders

St John Scotland promotes and supports the placing of Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) in communities across Scotland. St John Scotland helps local community groups by donating towards the cost of the equipment and offering free Bystander CPR and defibrillator awareness sessions. Volunteers will be expected to travel around your area to support local communities on where it is best to place the PAD. Access to a car is desirable. Volunteer travel expenses are covered.
