1 in 5 people in the UK say they are lonely. Volunteers like you help people to gain confidence so that they can reconnect with their local community.

Give companionship to people in their home or in the community. Help people to build confidence and self-esteem. Support people with everyday tasks such as shopping or doctor appointments. Help people to use local community services and social groups. Keep records of tasks.

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We help vulnerable people in the UK and abroad prepare for, withstand and recover from emergencies in their own communities.

2-3 hours per day, once a week for at least 12 months between Monday to Friday from 9am till 4:30pm.

Restrictions

Experience required: Warm and friendly with empathy for others. Good communication skills. Encouraging and supportive. Enjoy meeting and spending time with new people. Can work independently and as a part of a team. Driving is preferable but not essential. If you are driving for this role, you should have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows you to drive in the UK and have access to a vehicle. Due to the nature of this role, applicants must undergo an Enhanced PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check.
