*Why we need you: At Social Bite we believe that no one should be hungry, there is enough food and wealth in the city that means we can do something about this. Food is a great way of meeting peoples’ needs as well as offering community, a listening ear, and sign posting people to other services they may need. *What will you be doing? As part of a team of volunteers and a Social Bite shop staff member, you will be: • Preparing hot food, drinks, and setting up the shop to offer this take away service. • Being a friendly face and talking to people about how they are doing. • 'Signposting' people to various services provided by our partner charities e.g. housing/benefits advice, courses, drug/alcohol support. • Inviting them to Social Suppers. • Cleaning up after the session has finished. • We are looking for volunteers to help us on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays 2.00pm-3.15pm. *What skills and attributes do you need? • Being friendly and personable to ensure all customers feel welcome in the shop. • Enthusiasm and energy for serving customers. • A tolerant and non-judgemental attitude. • The ability to volunteer as part of a team with staff and other volunteers. • Experience of a catering environment/with food would be great but is in no way essential. • Experience of working with vulnerable people or those experiencing homelessness would be great but is not essential. *What support will you be given? • Induction session with a background to the organisation, role specific training, and information about local services to sign post people towards. • Regular opportunities to feedback to Volunteer Coordinator. • Volunteer Calendar of events and Volunteer Bi Monthly Newsletter. • FLOW Online Food hygiene and healthy & safety training. • Quarterly refresher training evenings. • Debrief with on-call staff member when needed. Devana Parish Church (formerly Ferryhill Parish Church) operates a great community café in the heart of Ferryhill, which creates a welcoming environment for those who attend for a morning cuppa and also for those who volunteer their services. We are requiring helpers, who can assist in the coffee shop, as it is a very popular meeting place. Helpers are required to volunteer with the team in the general running of the coffee shop. e.g. setting tables, serving coffees, clearing tables and generally tidying up. The café is located in the church but people do not need to be church members to be volunteers-everyone is welcome. All volunteers are welcome and greatly appreciated. The Tall Ships Aberdeen team are looking for help to give the international crews and visitors a warm Aberdeen welcome and make the Tall Ships Festival a huge success! There is a role for everyone. -Roles: As a Tall Ships volunteer, you get to experience the event first hand. Take part in a wide variety of roles from Spectator Services, Media, Event Operations, Transport Coordinators, Liaison Officers, Crew Services, Protocol, Hospitality. Our aim is to make our volunteer programme inclusive, diverse and accessible to all. Please get in touch with any special requirements and take your place as a volunteer at the Tall Ships Races. Liaison Officers: We need volunteers to act as a host to the ships and their crews while they are in port. Liaison Officers are the link between the ship, the crews, the city and the entire festival. The Kincorth Community Centre Hub has great volunteer opportunities to assist with a range of activities at the Hub. Volunteer roles include supporting our busy community cafe, which has rapidly taken off, we currently open 9.30 -2.30, but our aim is to run a breakfast and supper club, as well as have the cafe open for activities in the evening. We have a diverse community that has a lot to offer e.g.: art classes/exercise group/dance class/music lessons and we are always open to new ideas-we are more or less a blank canvass. Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteers. Level 2 Hygiene Certificate will be offered to those who want to volunteer/cook in the café. Any other training would be reviewed and provided if proved relevant. A fantastic, enjoyable opportunity to volunteer and help make a real difference for people and the community.
