People become Oxfam charity shop volunteers for all sorts of reasons. But there's one thing that unites them: they're one-of-a-kind.
Volunteering at Oxfam is the perfect way to make friends and gain new skills, whether you're looking to improve your CV, take on a new challenge or just have fun!
Depending on the needs of the shop and your interest, you may be involved in the following:

Using the shop's guidelines to sort and price donated clothes, books, homewares etc.
Receive donations from the public and ensure they are stored safely
Providing excellent customer service on the shop floor
Creating attractive displays across the shop
Promoting our Gift Aid scheme
Promoting our exciting sustainable fashion campaigns such as Second Hand September
We encourage our shop volunteers to develop an understanding of all aspects of the shop's work so that they can support the whole team as necessary.

Oxfam GB is a leading aid and development charity with a worldwide reputation for excellence and over 70 years of experience, working to end global poverty. Oxfam fights poverty in three ways; campaigning for change, development work and emergency response. Money raised in Oxfam retail shops plays a vital role in funding these projects.

Unable to take any under 18s due to safeguarding policy. Once more over 18s are on the team with PVG clearance we will be able to accept under 18s again.

Charity Shop Volunteers

The Lavender Touch wants to open its popular charity shop in Overhaugh Street, Galashiels for an extra nine hours a week. Can you help? Those additional nine hours of opening could increase the shop’s takings by up to 33%. That would make a huge difference to how we support those diagnosed with cancer in the Scottish Borders. And there are benefits for you too because volunteering, especially for a local charity, is so rewarding. All of our fundraising and proceeds from the shop stay here in the Scottish Borders. You will make sure that the shop is welcoming, well stocked and with great displays. You will need to organise your time in the shop and spot the jobs that need to be done and leave it organised and tidy for the next shift. Donations need to be sorted and priced and you will handle sales and payments by cash and card. You will have fun, make a real difference and become proud of your contribution. Our volunteers love what they do, value and support each other and receive thankyous and positive comments on a daily basis from our customers. Helping in our shop is so much more than giving as little as three hours of your time, it can be a chance to try something new, offer up your skills and experience or pick up retail skills. However, no specific experience is required. You can rely on the full support from The Lavender Touch development manager and the team of volunteers to support you and show you the ropes. There are also regular monthly meet ups to update you on the charity’s achievements and services plus the chance to swap ideas and suggestions. The application form does give you the chance to tell us about any skills, experience or interests you have and can bring to the charity.

Student Charity Book Shop Volunteers

For over 30 years the University’s second hand bookshop BookEnds been providing students not only a way to buy cheap textbooks, CDs and DVDs but also a way to make some money. We currently have over 6000 books in the shop, ranging from medical and science textbooks to literature and fiction. BookEnds is a part of University of Aberdeen’s Student Charities Campaign which means that a large portion of what we make each year in the shop goes to local charities in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. BookEnds are always looking for new volunteers – any member of the public is very welcome to volunteer with us and all help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated (plus if you are a student, we are also looking for new members for our committee). Please get in touch! Excellent support and relevant guidance is provided to all volunteers. Includes induction to show you how the store runs and volunteers are given committee details to allow them to get in touch with any questions. New volunteers will also be accompanied by a committee member on shift at all times for the first few weeks. Charity Shop Volunteers (George Street)

Hand of Solace is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization working with isolated/lonely elders and young people by offering direct services and support , all designed to help people make the most of life. We have a range of exciting volunteer opportunities to assist in this and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in joining our great volunteer team.
