Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum is a small independent museum and is entirely run by volunteers.

We are looking to recruit volunteers for our retail team. We are looking for friendly and customer focused people who want to work in a caring, friendly and supportive environment.

You don’t have to be interested in aviation or heritage but we do ask that you are enthusiastic and have a willingness to learn.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking for work experience, looking to get back into the workplace or someone who just has a few hours to spare.

You can volunteer as little as a few hours per week and if you feel that the shop is not the place for you, we have many volunteering opportunities throughout the museum.

Your role as a retail assistant:

Welcoming visitors to the museum
Taking admissions
Working the till
Replenishing stock
Keeping the displays tidy

Organisation aims and objectives

Preservation and conservation of aviation heritage with particular reference to Dumfries and Galloway. Education of the general public and of school children. School parties attend on a regular basis from a number of local schools. Preservation of a historic building on the museum site. The education of the general public and school children by the presentation, conservation and presentation of aviation artefacts memorabilia with an emphasis on the aviation of Dumfries and Galloway.

Frequency and commitment details

Some of our volunteers do as little as a few hours per week.

Restrictions

Experience required: Retail experience would be beneficial but not necessary as full training will be given.
Travel details: There is no direct public transport to the location but there is a bus service to Tinwald Downs Road and the museum is a 5 to 10 minute walk from there.
Minimum age: 16

Support

Taster details: Tasters and inductions will be tailored around the volunteers availability.
Training details: Full training on the point of sale till along with introductory and ongoing training and support with day to day tasks.

Retail Assistant

Tayside Re-users generates income to operate by recycling items and selling them from its warehouse shop in South Dudhope Mill. As a volunteer Retail Assistant, your main duties would include making sure the shop is clean, tidy, stocked up, merchandised-well and customers are dealt with in a friendly manner. You would be responsible for the stock displays, pricing, serving customers or helping with telephone or online enquiries and making sure that there is sufficient stock on display. You will enjoy helping the public and wish to develop good customer service skills.
