Description

People find volunteering with Penicuik Citizens Advice Bureau a stimulating and rewarding experience. We provide full training and on-going support. Apart from developing new skills, volunteers also enjoy being part of a team assisting the community on a wide range of issues. We recognise that potential volunteers come from a a variety of backgrounds and value the diversity of experiences and life skills they bring with them. We also re-imburse travel expenses for volunteers. We are ideally looking for people who can commit to one session per week at 3 hours per session.

To provide a free, confidential, impartial holistic advice, information and advocacy service on any subject including housing, benefits, debt, money advice, employment, consumer, utility, family and legal issues

Restrictions

Experience required: The bureau is a friendly place and everyone works very much as a team, training is provided so we are not looking for people who know all the answers, but people with good common sense and life experience. Volunteers receive plenty of support/training
Travel details: Penicuik CAB 14a John Street, Penicuik. Lothian buses 37, 47, 40 & 15/15A.

Volunteer Advisor

Citizens Advice Bureau are a network of independent charities. Each CAB helps people in its community by providing free and confidential advice, information and support. People seek help about a wide range of issues including: benefits, debt and money advice, work related problems, consumer issues, relationships and housing. Volunteers learn by 'shadowing' experienced advisers and undertaking a training programme. They are then supervised while delivering advice until they are competent enough to be approved as 'Licensed Advisers'. CAB training and experience is valued by employers and many volunteers find it helpful in developing their careers. Most volunteers also find that being part of the CAB team and working to help their clients boost their own health and well being.

Volunteer Advisor

As a volunteer advisor you will undertake full training and be supported gradually to become an adviser. This will involve interviewing clients and using the CAB information system give clients up to date and accurate information. You will explore options with clients and talk about the different ways their problems might be tackled, or offer practical help such as filling in a form, writing a letter, doing a benefit calculation, or making a phone call. The CAB has people from all walks of life and provides a vital service to the islands, this is a great opportunity to be part of something special. We have a small but committed and friendly staff team and are always looking for people who would like to get involved. If you have an interest but also some questions, the best thing you can do is have them answered. Come in and see the training officer or manager on Westview Terrace and discuss if this is the right opportunity for you. It really is a great opportunity.

Volunteer Advisor

Clackmannanshire Citizens Advice Bureau is recruiting volunteers for a number of roles within their busy Alloa office located in the town centre. Clacks CAB assist members of the public with problems with debt and benefits but we advise on all manner of topics, including: energy, employment, consumer, immigration and housing etc. Clackmannanshire Citizens Advice Bureau run a comprehensive training programme for trainee advisers which provides support and mentoring with an experienced adviser. So applicants must be willing to make a commitment of a year to the post. In return, your travel expenses will be paid by the bureau and there is access to external training once all initial training is completed. Many advisers have gained useful experience and qualifications whilst volunteering for CAB which have helped them gain employment.
