Hand of Solace is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization working with isolated/lonely elders and young people by offering direct services and support , all designed to help people make the most of life. We have a range of exciting volunteer opportunities to assist in this and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in joining our great volunteer team. This includes volunteering at our charity shop in George Street, Aberdeen:

We need Charity Shop Assistants who would meet and serve customers at our shop. Come and support us to raise money to support lonely and isolated people. Any amount of hour is appreciated. Just let us know your availability and we shall fit you in. In return you shall be working with a team of friendly people from diverse groups who are always willing to support each other to ensure the we achieve our goal.

We’ll give you all the training and support you need to do your role. All help will make a difference and be greatly appreciated.

Frequency and commitment details

The charity shop opens at 10am and closes at 5pm ? volunteers are welcome to assist during any of these times.

Restrictions

Experience required: We are keen to recruit charity shop assistants who are organised, trustworthy and responsible.
Travel details: Our Charity Shop is based at 537 George Street, Aberdeen. AB25 3XX
Minimum age: 16

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: .We reimburse travel expenses up to £7 per day. Receipts must be provided, and volunteers may fill out the Monthly Report Sheet where they can state any work related expenses which have been prior approved by the Volunteers Co-ordinator. Volunteers are reimbursed at the end of the month except in significant circumstance where the management may decide to reimburse weekly.
Training details: Good training and support is provided to all volunteers. includes induction and Health and Safety training.

Donations Assistants

Somebody Cares is a local charity who furnish homes, provide clothing, baby equipment, toys and food parcels to those in need within our city and shire. Through referral from many local support services, charities, social workers and the local councils, clients are able to access our services completely free of charge. By demonstrating empathy and support, our aim is to provide a helping hand to those who are facing challenging times, by offering hope and providing then with essential and practicable items which they otherwise couldn’t afford to purchase. Our greatest wish is that after receiving our support our clients can gain confidence, flourish and begin to escape the poverty trap. We work with men, woman and children from many different backgrounds, and our services are accessed by many support services including Aberdeen City Council, Cornhill Hospital, Grampians Women’s Aid, Barnardo’s, Children’s 1st, Turning Point Scotland, Langstane Housing, Shmu, Children and Family Services, Social Bite, Drugs and Alcohol Awareness and many medical professionals. We fund our charitable work by selling some of our donated items at our very busy retail megastore at Hazeldene Road, Aberdeen. (Old Dobbie’s building). The Megastore has many gems and bargains and has a strong local clientele who visit the store on a regular basis. We are looking for volunteers to help us sort through many of the donated items ready for sale. We are flexible with hours and days and are looking for enthusiastic people with a heart for making a difference to join our friendly team. A fantastic opportunity to help. All volunteers make a real difference and are greatly appreciated. Volunteer Trainee Adviser

DENNY AND DUNIPACE CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU ARE SEEKING TO RECRUIT 10 VOLUNTEERS. To help provide effective and efficient advice to members of the public, carry out admin duties and develop the bureau. Main Duties include: •Interviewing clients – listen to the client and let the client explain the problem. Help the client to clarify the issues by exploring the problem and asking questions •Giving information - Use Advisernet and other reference materials to find the relevant information, communicate that information to clients •Giving advice – explain the information to the client and the choices that the client has, so they can decide what to do •Give practical help – Fill in forms on paper or online, do benefit checks using appropriate calculation tools, speak to or contact other agencies on behalf of the client, with the client’s consent. •Complete clear case records •Recognise the root cause of problems and participate in taking action •Carry out admin duties. •Carry out reception duties. Denny and Dunipace CAB run a comprehensive training programme for Trainee Advisers which provides support and mentoring with an experienced Adviser. In return, your travel expenses will be reimbursed by the Bureau and there is access to external training once all initial training is completed. Many Advisers have gained useful experience and qualifications whilst volunteering for Denny and Dunipace CAB which have helped them gain employment.

Guide Dogs - Join a community of amazing people and incredible dogs as a Deputy coordinator for one of our fundraising groups

n this role you will be helping and supporting the Group coordinator within our fundraising groups to organise events and secure new opportunities for fundraising by; · Supporting in organising and attending events and collections in your local area, such as Great Guide Dogs Tea Party. Informing your key contact and relevant members of these events. · Supporting in building relationships with local networks, organisations, schools, and social groups to host events or to name their own puppy. · Delegating tasks and responsibilities to other volunteers within your fundraising group in the absence of the Fundraising Group Coordinator. · Supporting in making sure fundraising policies and procedures are followed; including all roles are maintaining their required records. Agreed volunteering out of pocket expenses are paid according to the Guide Dogs volunteer expenses policy. Full training and support provided for this role. We have a range of exciting volunteer opportunities to assist in this and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in joining our great volunteer team: *Our Young People Volunteer Befrienders are matched on a 1:1 basis with a child aged (5-16) within the Aberdeen community and through caring, reliability and consistency build up a trusting relationship, thus providing positive role model. Befrienders shall support the young people to access/attend activities within the community to reduce isolation, promote self-confidence/esteem and to help young people to begin to learn life skills. *Our Older People Volunteer Befrienders are matched on a 1:1 basis with an older person aged 50 and above within the North areas of Aberdeen(including-Stoneywood, Bucksburn, Dyce, Seaton, Northfield and Bridge of Don).Volunteer befrienders visit their befriendees once a week to spend quality time(2-3 hours) with them (which may include support with accessing /attending local activities ) to reduce loneliness and isolation. *We need Charity Shop Assistants who would meet and serve customers at our shop.
