Scottish Poppy Appeal Organisers

Description

Poppyscotland are looking for individuals, business, or community groups to organise the annual Scottish Poppy Appeal in Aberdeen. The poppy is the national symbol of Remembrance worn proudly by those who wish to support the Armed Forces community of Scotland in the build up to Remembrance Sunday.

Your role will be to coordinate the Scottish Poppy Appeal, by organising deliveries to local schools, shops, and businesses, organising ‘staffed’ collections at busy locations such as supermarkets by building a network of collectors to support the Appeal and producing collection rotas and at the end of the Poppy Appeal ensuring all donations are collected in and paid into the banked so that they can fund Poppyscotland life changing Welfare programs for veterans, serving personnel and their families.

Organisation aims and objectives

Poppyscotland provides life-changing support to our Armed Forces community. We reach out to those who have served, those still serving, and their families at times of crisis and need by offering vital, practical advice, assistance and funding. We believe that those who serve or have served, whether regular or reserve, are deserving of our support to live life fully without disadvantage after service. No veteran should live without the prospect of employment, good health and a home, and we all have a part to play in achieving this. Poppyscotland is best known for running the iconic Scottish Poppy Appeal, but we work all year round to help those who have served, those still serving and their families receive the care and support they urgently need.

Frequency and commitment details

Flexible times available to volunteer. All help greatly appreciated.

Restrictions

Travel details: You will be assigned a specific area or location within Aberdeen to Plan and develop the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
Minimum age: 18

Support

Expenses paid: Yes
Expenses details: All reasonable out of Pocket expenses will be reimbursed. These need to be pre agreed before purchase and receipts submitted.
Training details: Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers. Initial induction, will explain all aspects of the volunteering role. You will also be assigned a named Poppyscotland team member who will work with you to develop the Scottish Poppy appeal.

Community Engagement Facilitators

Being a Community Facilitator is all about delivering a variety of lifesaving first aid skills in community engagement workshops and projects, within local communities, and primary and secondary schools. A lot of these projects involve talking about and demonstrating the basics of first aid to community groups that can include children, young people, and vulnerable adults. An example of events you could be delivering a first aid talk and demo to, are primary and secondary schools, small university groups, local community groups, charities, summer fairs, shopping centres. Some of the skills you could be teaching include how to provide CPR and apply a defib, different bandages and how to use them, and basic information on various health conditions. Events Coordinator

Scottish Communities Climate Action Network (SCCAN)’s purpose is to inspire and promote, connect and support community-led action in Scotland to address the Climate Emergency. Please see our website: https://www.scottishcommunitiescan.org.uk/ Would you like to help take climate action to the next level? We have a new volunteer role available with our Events working groups! You would be helping once a week with the following: -Events organizing and facilitating -Taking part in regular events working group meetings -Contacting potential speakers and facilitators -Promoting events by writing blog posts and promoting on social media. -Compile a report on the event. As a volunteer led organisation, our capacity to offer thorough training on events coordination is limited so we would expect you to have some experience or to be adaptable. There will be some initial training on the way SCCAN operates. The start date is flexible to suit your availability. Our events and meetings are currently done online through zoom. PAD Lead - Scottish Borders

St John Scotland promotes and supports the placing of Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) in communities across Scotland. St John Scotland helps local community groups by donating towards the cost of the equipment and offering free Bystander CPR and defibrillator awareness sessions. Volunteers will be expected to travel around your area to support local communities on where it is best to place the PAD. Access to a car is desirable. Volunteer travel expenses are covered.
