Walk Leader - Clydebank

West Dunbartonshire CVS
Postcode: G81 1UJ
We are looking for welcoming and enthusiastic volunteers to lead and support short health and social walks in West Dunbartonshire - these walks are based in Alexandria, Dumbarton, Old Kilpatrick and in Clydebank. Becoming a volunteer walk leader requires you to commit around an hour or two of your time weekly and to sometimes complete a small amount of preparation & paperwork for the walk. Health walks encourage people who have not exercised for a while, find walking boring, or lack confidence to join a walking group because they think they will not be able to keep up. The walks are free, short, low intensity, safe and social around the local environment. Over the next year we plan to build upon our network of gentle exercise activities across West Dunbartonshire as part of the Walking Friendly West Dunbartonshire partnership. To help us achieve this we are looking for friendly and supportive volunteers who enjoy walking, meeting new folk while sharing the wide-range health and well-being benefits of gentle physical activity. Volunteers all receive Paths for All Walk Leader training to give them the skills and confidence to lead walks in your community. Further training can lead to you to becoming a Dementia Friendly Walk Leader. You will be encouraged to join a Health Walk and chat to a Health Walk leader before your training so that you have an idea of how it works on the ground. Volunteer walk leaders receive on-going support from the Health Walk coordinator.

Walk Leader - Old Kilpatrick

West Dunbartonshire CVS
Postcode: G60 5JH

Volunteer Walk Leaders with Moray Health Walks

Health and Social Care Moray
Postcode: AB56 1QB
We are looking for welcoming and enthusiastic volunteer(s) to lead short health walks in Moray -- currently these gentle walks are based in Forres, Fochabers, Hopeman, Elgin, Cullen, Buckie, Lossiemouth, Dufftown, Rothes and Keith. It's sociable, relaxed, fun and flexible -- and there is great support for our volunteers. Becoming a volunteer walk leader requires you to commit around an hour or so of your time weekly (but there is room for flexible dates!) and to sometimes complete a small amount of preparation & paper work for the walk. Health walks encourage people who have not exercised for a while, find walking boring, or lack confidence to join a walking group because they think they will not be able to keep up. Walks are free, short, low intensity, safe and social and are usually followed by a cup of tea or coffee and a chat! Over the next year we plan to build upon our network of gentle exercise activities across the Moray region. To help us achieve this we are looking for friendly and supportive volunteers who enjoy walking, meeting new folk sharing the wide ranging health and well- being benefits of gentle physical activity. Volunteers all receive Paths for All Walk Leader training to give them the skills and confidence to lead walks in your community. You will be encouraged to join a Health Walk and chat to a Health Walk leader before your training so that you have an idea of how it works on the ground. Volunteer walk leaders receive on-going support from the local Health Walk co-ordinator, too

Postcode: IV30 1BU
Scotland Versus Arthritis is looking for individuals willing to lead short health walks in your area, lead on other physical activities, or facilitate virtual support groups. Full training and on-going support for volunteers will be available. We are also looking for expressions of interest from anyone keen to become an instructor of Tai Chi or Qi Gong for arthritis. The current Covid restrictions have meant that for many the wait for treatment may be a year or more away. Painkilling prescriptions are seldom more than a temporary relief. Support and exercise can however offer a better way to self manage the daily on-going pain and fatigue. In readiness for the eventual lifting of lockdown we are asking, can you spare an hour or two each month to help? Please contact your local Development Officer, Dr. P. Neville, p.neville@versusarthritis.org or phone 07501 501114 for details.

KLSB Community Volunteer (Larbert, Stenhousemuir and surrounding areas)

The KLSB Community Group (Keeping Larbert and Stenhousemuir Beautiful)
Postcode: FK5 4HD
The KLSB Community Group was formed in 2018 after it was identified that there was a need for a local group in the area to help tackle issues including food insecurities, social welfare, support and general community wellbeing. We started as a small litter picking group where we gained support from local residents, groups and businesses. Since those early days we have now become a registered Scottish charity who operate a food pantry, a support hub and we are also in the process of bringing a large community garden to the area. We continue to work in the community by bringing colour to our public gardens as well as our micro gardens which can be found throughout our area. Poverty affects millions of people in the UK. Poverty means not being able to heat your home, pay your rent, or buy the essentials for your children. It means waking up every day facing insecurity, uncertainty, and impossible decisions about money. It means facing marginalisation - and even discrimination - because of your financial circumstances. The constant stress it causes can lead to problems that deprive people of the chance to play a full part in society. We operate a community food pantry in King Street, Stenhousemuir where Falkirk residents can join, and be entitled to a weekly shopping at a much reduced cost. We also operate a food bank where we take referrals from local authorities and groups such as church groups, councillors, doctors, schools, Support for People, Self-Isolation Support & Social Workers. We provide this range of services with help from many local volunteers and we offer you the chance to join us, we are an enthusiastic and welcoming team who work together to make a positive impact on our community, volunteer tasks include: - planting and maintaining local green spaces, including our flowering planters - helping out at the Food Pantry by serving pantry users, organising and sorting food items, keeping the area clean and tidy - helping out at events or at our Community Hub where our other community groups are welcomed to host their own meetings and get-togethers, free of charge

Girls & Women Cricket Leader/Coach

Strathmore Cricket Club
Postcode: DD8 1DU
In 2018 and 2019, Strathmore Cricket Club ran cricket events exclusively for girls and women. These events had two elements: · CricHit – which is an exercise and fitness programme specifically developed for females · Softball Cricket – cricket games played with a softball The club plans to develop cricket for girls and women in 2020 and needs volunteers to help it do that. The club’s ambition is to establish regular girls and women’s sessions. CricHit – we would like to recruit and train volunteers who can deliver this programme to groups of girls and women. We would like to see the programme offered as an extra-curricular activity in school and on a regular basis at the club and in the community. Softball Cricket - This is the fastest growing aspect of the sport of cricket, in Scotland and across the world. We want to make sure that Forfar is part of that development. Girls’ and Women’s softball sessions are intended to be fun and social events. They normally include a mix of activities and games – with plenty of time for participants to socialise. They are flexible and try to take account of what participants want to do. For those who want to play more competitive games, sessions can be adjusted to make this possible. Strathmore Cricket Club is seeking to establish regular sessions at the club We are also keen to develop sessions at Forfar Academy – open to students and staff and have run some sessions for Brownie and Guide Groups in the past so the possibilities for this new venture are endless! To take these opportunities forward we also need volunteers in different roles, including to: · Promote and market programmes · Organise the cricket activities · Organise the social elements of events – music, catering etc This opportunity would be of interest to people interested in sports development, youth work, hospitality, marketing and promotion as well as for girls and women with an interest in fitness and sport.

Assistant Section Leader / Section Assistants

27th Aberdeen Scout Group
Postcode: AB24 4JY
Through the adventure of Scouting, young people get to take risks in a safe environment, and have their first taste of responsibility. We give young people experiences they’ll never forget. The sort of adventure Scouting offers is the chance to experience something different and the opportunity to challenge yourself. When a Beaver Scout wakes up the morning after a sleepover, or Cub Scout has just got over her fear of heights by completing her first abseil - that’s adventure. Come join us in providing that adventure and sharing #SkillsForLife. Volunteering with our sections needn’t be a weekly commitment, if you’re not sure if it’s for you ask us about the four week challenge. We have three sections in the group for you to choose between, depending on just how much you want to “grow down” as a means to relax. Our Beavers (6-8 year olds) and Cubs (8-10½ year olds) meet on Tuesday Evening, whilst the Scouts (10½ – 14 year olds) meet on Fridays. You’ll be getting involved with delivering games and activities for our young people, whether that’s dishing out tails or getting them unstuck with something they’re making. Assistant Section Leaders will additionally take an active part in the planning of these activities and generally assist the section leader in running the section. You don’t need to travel to the other side of the world to make a difference. For further details please contact Bryan McKellar,, Executive Committee Member at E Mail: joinus@27thaberdeen.org.uk or telephone: 07981 477560.

Food & Fun Volunteers

Aberdeen City Council Food & Fun Programme
Postcode: AB10 1AB
Food and Fun was introduced by the Council as a pilot to deliver free meals and activities to children in key areas of Aberdeen during school holiday periods and has been rolled out on a permanent basis. Over Christmas, as an extension of the project, special events were hosted for young people to enjoy the festivities – from ice skating and crafts to a disco and visit to Santa. For everyone involved in Food and Fun there’s a busy period ahead. The main aim is to ensure children continue to be fed, recognising the importance of school meals during term time for a large number of families, and also to provide the opportunity to take part in physical activity in a nurturing environment. The initiative has been recognised with awards – but the reward and motivation for the many people who have put their heart and soul into developing the programme is in the positive impact there is on children, families and communities. When we talk about our purpose – about caring for our city and our people – we think Food and Fun is a shining example that we can all be incredibly proud of. Many participants obtain great life skills which has assisted them in securing other opportunities as well as the personal development and satisfaction that this also brings. All help makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. To volunteer / for more information please contact Martin Smith, Locality Inclusion Manager at E Mail: martinsmith@aberdeencity.gov.uk or Tel.: 01224 788538.

Shorewatch Volunteer

Whale and Dolphin Conservation (Shetland)
Postcode: ZE1 0JP
The Shorewatch citizen science project is a network of volunteers trained and supported by WDC to carry out regular 10-minute surveys from Shorewatch sites across Scotland. We know that Scotland is home to a number of whale and dolphin species, yet there are still so many unanswered questions about where they breed, feed and travel. We believe it is important to keep eyes on the sea so we can better understand these amazing creatures to better protect them. To become a Shorewatch volunteer, you will attend a full day training session where you will learn how to identify different species of cetacean, and how to carry out a 10-minute Shorewatch. You’ll then be fully supported by our Northern Isles Policy Officer in carrying out your first few watches from one of our selected sites – in Shetland these are Mousa Sound, Eshaness Lighthouse, Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, Lerwick (the Knab), Belmont (Unst) and South Nesting Bay. All of the equipment you need to carry out the 10-minute survey will be accessible at each site. Understanding the movements of whales, dolphins and porpoises will allow us to comprehend how our behaviours affect them. We can use the data we gather to influence policy makers and advise developers to ensure better protection for whales and dolphins. Shorewatch relies on our amazing community volunteers to collect this vital data.

Session Volunteers for Climbing Programme

Urban Uprising (Aberdeen)
Postcode: AB24 5NN
Urban Uprising was launched in the UK in 2017 with the aim to improve the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of young people struggling to elevate themselves. Since then our programmes in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bristol have reached hundreds of young people and seen their confidence, self-reliance and resilience grow alongside their climbing skills. Due to growing success, the team is now starting a new project in Aberdeen and recruiting Session Volunteers. This is a crucial role in the successful delivery of our unique climbing programme, with individuals being responsible for helping to run climbing sessions alongside qualified instructors, creating a consistent experience for groups and participants, and providing participants with a positive role model. It is a hugely rewarding role. Through a structured programme, you will help young people learn how to climb safely and responsibly, but also gain improved self-esteem, develop life and employment skills, find adventure and a sense of community. If you wish to be considered for the role, please complete the form accessed through the following link: bit.ly/UUvolunteer For more information or further details please contact Ben Campbell, Project Coordinator at email: ben@urbanuprising.org / tel.: 07754622448 / web: https://www.urbanuprising.org/support-us

Shifts are split into two hour blocks, with volunteers working in pairs. General duties can include putting out equipment, taking bookings, operating the till, and potentially opening or closing the centre (depending on the shift signed up for). Although Albury is a sports centre, no sports experience is required although volunteering at the Centre can earns membership discounts! The Albury Outdoor Sports Centre has been run by volunteers since May 2011, and usage of the centre has increased year on year, due to the dedication and commitment of the volunteers involved. The centre would not be able to open without the continued support of volunteers, and new volunteers are always welcomed. Our main aims are to: (i) promote the Centre within the local community and to encourage all to join regardless of ability or age, and (ii) maximise usage of the Centre through development of services and facilities. Volunteer Befriender

Volunteering Matters
Postcode: ML2 8JX
The North Lanarkshire Befriending Project help support vulnerable and isolated young people aged 6-18 in the local area. With social isolation, inequality and child poverty on the rise, the need for befrienders to support young people to increase their confidence, achieve personal goals and make links in their local community, is more important than ever. If you are passionate about the wellbeing of children and young people and could spend time with a young person sharing a hobby or activity on a fortnightly basis, then become a befriender in North Lanarkshire today! Once trained and matched to a young person with similar interests, the befriender and young person meet every fortnight to take part in an activity. For example, you could meet for a hot chocolate, nature walks, a gym class, bowling or the cinema. There may be particular activities that the young person would like to take part in but we also encourage volunteer befrienders to introduce ideas for new activities when appropriate. Befrienders will give a young person a positive role model in their life by passing on their skills and experience, enabling them to try new experiences and simply providing them with a few hours of fun. By committing to just a couple of hours every fortnight, you could make a real difference where it is needed the most. Volunteer requirements • Must commit to contact with young person at least once every 2 weeks for 6-12 months • Attend training, delivered in 3 x 3 hour blocks • Must apply to the PVG scheme (handled and paid for by the project) • Interest and enthusiasm in working with young people • Must be at least 18 years of age As a volunteer, you would have the satisfaction of helping a young person in need, increasing your own confidence, enhancing your skills and experience and having fun! Dava Way Association
Postcode: IV36 1BH
One of Scotland's Great Trails, The Dava Way, is maintained entirely by volunteers...Could you join the team for the occasional Saturday? The Dava Way links the 24 miles between Forres and Grantown mostly following the route of the dismantled Highland Railway Line and is used by thousands of walkers, cyclists and horse riders each year. It is maintained by members of the Forres-based Dava Way Association and funded by donations and occasional grants from local and national charities. The Association organises monthly maintenance days to clear drainage and cut back undergrowth and fallen trees so that the path remains usable. As well as maintenance tasks, the volunteers are progressively improving the track as and when funding permits. Key to the ongoing success of the Dava Way is the team of volunteers who give their time to maintain the trail. Please consider joining the team on a regular or even occasional basis.
