Project Overview Our Family Supporters in Edinburgh project offers practical and emotional support to families across the city of Edinburgh, empowering them to face a range of life challenges. We recruit, train and match dedicated, local volunteers to help families every step of the way, spending 1-1 time together on a personalised set of goals chosen by the family, for the family. We can help in many ways, such as improved living standards, budgeting, healthier eating, better school life and behaviour, access to health and wellbeing aid, as well as introducing parents to community resources, to name a few. So far, thousands of families across the UK have benefitted from our service and we are now delighted to extend the programmes reach to families in Edinburgh. Who can volunteer with us? Our volunteers are locally based people with an understanding of the challenges that families are facing. Aged 18+, each volunteer brings different life experiences and skills that they can use to help the family they are matched to, offering support on a weekly basis for an hour or so each week, usually for 6-9 months at a time that suits everyone. They build a strong relationship based on trust and mutual respect, acting as a friendly face who listens and cares about the family. All volunteers are interviewed, trained to the highest standards and undergo disclosure checks before being matched with a family. We also encourage and welcome volunteers who have the ability to speak multiple languages join our team! What can we offer volunteers? As well as the sense of achievement that comes through supporting a family, our volunteers will have the opportunity to learn and develop new skills, attend social events with other volunteers and enhance their employability. Certificates are provided upon completion of induction training and at the end of the commitment, with project staff happy to provide references for future studies or employment.

Searchlight Scotland runs a restoration programme and supported accommodation for women whose lives have been affected by human trafficking, addiction, abuse and other life controlling issues We are recruiting volunteers to help us in our mission. In particular we would like to reach out to students who are currently studying psychology, social work or health care. However, anyone who is enthusiastic, caring and passionate about helping make a difference in people’s lives is what we are looking for the most. Woodcraft Folk are looking for group leaders and helpers for our Glasgow Kelvingrove groups. There are 4 groups for children and young people of differing age ranges from under 6's to 13-16's . The groups meet one evening a week in term time but may organise day trips and camps in school holidays. Our groups aim to develop children and young people's confidence and awareness of the world. We promote big ideas like equality, co-operation and environmental sustainability through fun activities. We do a wide range of activities including games, craft, exploring nature, bushcraft, drama, discussions and songs. As well as weekly group nights we take part in day events and camps with groups from across Scotland. Global Family Care Network is a non-profit organization that works to prevent and intercept child trafficking and systematic abuse and provide long-term and family-based care for children who are victims of commercial sexual exploitation and other forms of abuse. Our mission is to preserve the family and protect at-risk children with the assistance of community organizations, volunteer caregivers, and donors. Our vision is to help as many children as possible who are victims of poverty, exploitation, and abuse by modeling and sharing principled methods that represent the best possible outcome. Victim Support Scotland - Central Scotland and Fife Locality (Clacks)

Victim Support Scotland provides free and independent information and support to people affected by crime – this includes victims, witnesses and their friends or family. The service provided are confidential. They are currently looking for volunteers to assist us with witness support in Alloa. VSS services are provided in a range of ways and volunteers may be required to carry out any of the following tasks: - Carrying out initial needs assessments. - Conduct court familiarisation visits - Providing face to face support and advice to all witnesses - Provide practical and emotional support, and information about the criminal justice system to victims and witnesses attending court or a remote site for Sheriff Court trials - Providing in-court support, where required, to witnesses while giving their evidence. To carry out this role you will need the following skills and experience: - Ability to listen non-judgementally to victims and witnesses who may be in emotional distress - Capacity to learn about the criminal justice system, to pass on information to victims and witnesses - Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality of victims and witnesses. VSS have a comprehensive induction process for their volunteers. This includes completing Victim Support Scotland’s training, obtaining a PVG, providing two references, and completing a period of shadowing a current volunteer before undertaking any work unsupervised. VSS also require volunteers to sign and abide by their Volunteer Agreement. As such, VSS are looking for volunteers who can commit one full day a week (either a Tuesday or Wednesday), for a minimum period of a year.

Somebody Cares is a local charity who furnish homes, provide clothing, baby equipment, toys and food parcels to those in need within our city and shire. Through referral from many local support services, charities, social workers and the local councils, clients are able to access our services completely free of charge. By demonstrating empathy and support, our aim is to provide a helping hand to those who are facing challenging times, by offering hope and providing then with essential and practicable items which they otherwise couldn’t afford to purchase. Our greatest wish is that after receiving our support our clients can gain confidence, flourish and begin to escape the poverty trap. We work with men, woman and children from many different backgrounds, and our services are accessed by many support services including Aberdeen City Council, Cornhill Hospital, Grampians Women’s Aid, Barnardo’s, Children’s 1st, Turning Point Scotland, Langstane Housing, Shmu, Children and Family Services, Social Bite, Drugs and Alcohol Awareness and many medical professionals. We fund our charitable work by selling some of our donated items at our very busy retail megastore at Hazeldene Road, Aberdeen. (Old Dobbie’s building). The Megastore has many gems and bargains and has a strong local clientele who visit the store on a regular basis. We are looking for volunteers to help us sort through many of the donated items ready for sale. We are flexible with hours and days and are looking for enthusiastic people with a heart for making a difference to join our friendly team. A fantastic opportunity to help. The group comprises approximately 15 members of the public, working with five local councillors, and its vision is to: a) To bring about improvements to the lives of people in Aberdeen City who experience exclusion because of disability by promoting a rights-based approach to disability equality. b) To create a society where disabled people are valued, respected and included in the life of the City. c) To encourage and promote inclusion and equality. d) To create fair opportunity by identifying and removing the disabling barriers which disabled people face daily including prejudice, discrimination and negative attitudes. e) To provide a means of partnership, consultation and joint action with Aberdeen City Council Meetings are held at Aberdeen Town House (entrance from Queen Street, Aberdeen). There is also the option to join the meeting remotely if you choose to do so. The Disability Equity Partnership (DEP) has 6 meetings over the year. We are looking for volunteers to provide telephone, in person and email advice to clients in Dundee, covering topics such as benefits, housing, employment and immigration. You will be tasked with researching the clients issue using “Adviser Net”, local files and / or reference books, explaining the information to clients and giving them advice on their choices. You will be expected to work under citizens advice’s principles of providing free, confidential, impartial and independent advice. Training will be provided in full. We have extensive training opportunities provided as well as the mandatory Adviser Training Programme. The Adviser Training Programme is extensive, and as such we are looking for individuals that can commit to 2+ years of service, for roughly 6 hours per week. This can be completed Monday-Friday. Any students who wish to apply will only be considered if they have more than 2 years left of their studies before entering the work-force.

Helping EU citizens with their applications to the EU Settlement Scheme

Citizens Rights Project is focused on providing information about the EU Settlement Scheme, which involves application process for the settled or pre-settled status for EU/EEA/Swiss nationals, and their family members, living in the UK. We are looking for community leaders, caseworkers or local organisers with experience in social work or similar (i.e. citizens rights, community development, cultural integration and diversity, migrant issues, vulnerable individuals and communities, etc.) who would like to volunteer with us. Your role will be to provide information and advice about the EU Settlement Scheme, and assist eligible Eu/EEA/Swiss community members with the application process. As our volunteer you will: - learn about the EU Settlement Scheme - receive free training and OISC Level 1 (limited to EUSS) accreditation - acquire experience providing 1-2-1 advice under supervision of an experienced immigration adviser - provide language and technological support in making applications to the EU Settlement Scheme - work closely with vulnerable EU/EEA/Swiss community members with complex needs and assist them in the process of securing their legal rights in the UK - join the network of organisations who support European communities in the UK We offer volunteer placements to willing and eligible candidates who can dedicate a few hours a week of their time. The placements are open to anyone with right to reside in the UK, and is not limited to UK and other EU nationals. However, speakers of other European language as well as English are especially welcome to join the programme. The groups meet one evening a week in term time but may organise day trips and camps in school holidays. Our groups aim to develop children and young people's confidence and awareness of the world. We promote big ideas like equality, co-operation and environmental sustainability through fun activities. We do a wide range of activities including games, craft, exploring nature, bushcraft, drama, discussions and songs. As well as weekly group nights we take part in day events and camps with groups from across Scotland. We have great volunteering opportunities at Angus Independent Advocacy (AIA). We are looking for Angus residents to become Citizen Advocate's. An ideal Citizen Advocate will share our core purpose of supporting people to have their voice heard and uphold our Values. They must be aged 18+, are non- judgemental and have good communication and listening skills. All Citizen Advocates undergo a PVG check and must provide 2 references. We also ask that all new Citizen Advocates complete our preparation course. The purpose of this course is to give the person a better understanding of what Citizen Advocacy is and the principles and standards that underpin our work, focusing on; inclusion, confidentiality, non-discriminatory practice and adult protection. Main purpose of the role: - To connect with people who may have a learning disability, mental ill health, acquired brain injury, have dementia or are an older person. - Independent advocacy is a 1:1 equal partnership between an advocacy partner and citizen advocate. The citizen advocate will bring the concerns of the partner into ordinary life and help the partner to connect with their local community. A Development Worker will support you until you are matched with an Advocacy Partner. Our volunteering is unique as once you are matched as an equal Partnership, there are no set hours it is up to the two people when they want to meet or talk. We meet usually every last Monday of the month (except July and December). Some examples of our involvement are monthly meetings involving locally elected councillors, Police and guest speakers. We regularly review local planning applications, local news/ concerns and organise community events such as beach cleans, seasonal town decorations/ events such as the summer bunting and Christmas Lights display/ switch on. We also support to facilitate local projects such as most recently the creation of our Carnoustie Butterfly and supporting creation of the town heritage trail as well as collaborating with organisations to distribute community funds, such as the recent Seagreen Community Funding. There is opportunity to become involved in such a wide variety of projects/ groups dependant on your availability of time.
