Camphill Wellbeing Trust
Postcode: AB15 9QD
Support our exciting community Compass Project and help to transform the naturally-beautiful and historic 4.1 acre former Waldorf School site into a centre demonstrating practical solutions for healthy, sustainable lifestyles. The project has something for everyone including opportunities to find out and participate in: • sustainable building practices with conservation of the listed main building & sensitive repurposing of the others – dry-stone wall restoration, stripping back damaged plasterboard ready for refurbishment, sorting building materials and items for re-purposing and upcycling. • an integrated, creative health & education approach, supported by the natural & built environment – we offer opportunities for volunteers from secondary schools to participate in appropriate outdoor projects onsite. • sustainable social enterprise projects serving the local community and involving those with learning disabilities – experience circular economy in practice as we start to outlet local organic produce and plants onsite on a donation basis. • organic/biodynamic land use with nutritious food production, no-dig demonstration allotments, composting, beehives, wild flower meadow and woodland – keen gardeners are always welcome to come and help create a no-dig system from scratch so you never have to weed again! Experienced chain-saw operators can help manage our woodland. • repair, reuse & recycle practices minimising waste and encouraging sustainability – furniture and other items for upcycling. -Compass needs you! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to lend a hand with whatever needs doing. We hold regular volunteer days where you can enjoy meeting like-minded people working together to make a visible difference to our site after each session. Volunteers tell us it is very satisfying to see how much of a difference their work can make. Volunteers with specialised skills such as joiners, plumbers and DIY-enthusiasts will be especially welcome as we enter the next phase of our project to strip out the existing buildings ready for refurbishment. ‘Being out in the fresh air with others, seeing changes happening and feeling like I was part of a bigger process. I have also enjoyed meeting others who are enthused about the project. Sense of community, healthy activities. Very friendly co-ordinator and other helpers so feeling of welcome is lovely. I also value the fact that I only manage a couple of hours but this is still appreciated and I don't feel guilty when I feel like my body needs to stop! Beautiful grounds to work in’. – Compass volunteer ‘Such a great sense of satisfaction and wellbeing experienced at the end of 2 hours of hard physical work. This has sparked off an interest in gardening and growing plants at home. And also enjoyed being part of a community and meeting new people each time I come along who are equally enthusiastic about this project’. – Compass volunteer Everyone is welcome at Compass and we look forward to working with you onsite! You can find out more on our website: www.camphillwellbeing.org.uk/compass or email: compass@cwt.scot for further details on volunteering with this exciting project.

Full-Time Volunteer Mentor

Volunteering Matters
Postcode: EH7 5JT
ProjectScotland (part of the national charity Volunteering Matters) uses the unique power of volunteering to support young people to move on in life. We have a 5-month opportunity for a full-time volunteer to support our programmes working in partnership with high schools across Edinburgh. We are currently based in two high schools (Castlebrae Community Campus and St Thomas of Aquin’s High School) where we run a volunteering programme for pupils, particularly those on flexible timetables, who have barriers that prevent them from achieving a positive pathway to the next stage of their lives. With our support, the pupils complete volunteering placements with local charities and social enterprises as a way of developing their skills and confidence in new environments outside of school. This is a great opportunity for a young person who is interested in taking a gap year to volunteer directly with young people to positively impact their lives and make a difference in their community. To support the Volunteer Mentor in their journey with us, our organisation will make a contribution to the volunteer towards their living costs, as well as covering any out-of-pocket expenses incurred during their volunteering commitment. The Volunteer Mentor role will involve supporting the pupils engaging on the programme, with the help of project staff and the school community. Volunteers are not expected to have any prior skills or experience as full training and support will be provided. However, we are looking for someone who can commit up to 30 hours per week to undertake the role, show dedication and are willing to learn new skills. The role may vary considerably day-to-day depending on the needs and interests of the young people you will support, and development opportunities will be offered to you as the Volunteer Mentor throughout the placement. As a Volunteer Mentor, you will take part in: Developing relationships with pupils who are participating in the volunteering programme - Accompanying pupils to their chosen volunteer placements and, if required, volunteer alongside pupils in a supervisory role - Supporting with the wider volunteering culture within the school - Introducing young people to new opportunities - Helping with appropriate volunteering administration tasks - Researching local opportunities and helping to maintain relationships with our charity partners What we’re looking for - - Volunteer must be aged 18+ - Be sociable and positive - Have good communication skills - Be comfortable using public transport - Interest in volunteering with teenagers (aged 13-17) - Willingness to support young people with additional support needs - Have a patient and flexible mindset - Be proactive - Good time-management skills If you have any questions, please get in touch with our James Donnelly, Youth Social Action Project Manager for Edinburgh, the Lothians & Forth Valley on james.donnelly@volunteeringmatters.org.uk or 07823-413-260.

The invitation to volunteer extends to anyone over the age of 13 with an interest in sport and a desire to give back to the local community, who is inspired to help young people. Secondary school pupils who opt to volunteer will be accompanied by an adult when helping to deliver sessions. A sportscotland national initiative that aims to provide all children with high quality opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity, Active Schools is delivered in Aberdeen by award-winning charity Sport Aberdeen. The team engages with all local authority primary and secondary schools across the city, with a responsibility to encourage young people to participate in free physical activity sessions and join extracurricular sports clubs. Prior to Covid-19, a notable 89% of Active Schools activities were carried out by volunteers including parents, teachers, students, secondary school pupils and family members. The 2018 to 2019 school academic year saw 891 volunteer deliverers, with some 9588 pupils attending sessions. Eilidh Shanks, former Active Schools volunteer during secondary school, said: “I really enjoyed volunteering for Active Schools. I was involved in helping at netball clubs, holiday activity camps and fun runs. I loved that I got to work with kids of all ages, encouraging them to take part in sport. It was rewarding to see the kids enjoying themselves and improving each week.” Volunteering can also help to shape a career in sport. Rory Anton, former Active Schools volunteer, commented: “During my time volunteer coaching for Active Schools, it really helped me see the power of sport for young people and allowed me as a young coach to develop my leadership capabilities. There are definitely aspects of my job as a Club Development Officer at RGU SPORT supporting the development of our Student Leaders that I couldn’t do without the experience of leading so many sessions for Active Schools.” This is a key opportunity to join a supportive team and individuals will receive full training to ensure safe delivery of all sessions. Girls & Women Cricket Leader/Coach

Strathmore Cricket Club
Postcode: DD8 1DU
In 2018 and 2019, Strathmore Cricket Club ran cricket events exclusively for girls and women. These events had two elements: · CricHit – which is an exercise and fitness programme specifically developed for females · Softball Cricket – cricket games played with a softball The club plans to develop cricket for girls and women in 2020 and needs volunteers to help it do that. The club’s ambition is to establish regular girls and women’s sessions. CricHit – we would like to recruit and train volunteers who can deliver this programme to groups of girls and women. We would like to see the programme offered as an extra-curricular activity in school and on a regular basis at the club and in the community. Softball Cricket - This is the fastest growing aspect of the sport of cricket, in Scotland and across the world. We want to make sure that Forfar is part of that development. Girls’ and Women’s softball sessions are intended to be fun and social events. They normally include a mix of activities and games – with plenty of time for participants to socialise. They are flexible and try to take account of what participants want to do. For those who want to play more competitive games, sessions can be adjusted to make this possible. Strathmore Cricket Club is seeking to establish regular sessions at the club We are also keen to develop sessions at Forfar Academy – open to students and staff and have run some sessions for Brownie and Guide Groups in the past so the possibilities for this new venture are endless! To take these opportunities forward we also need volunteers in different roles, including to: · Promote and market programmes · Organise the cricket activities · Organise the social elements of events – music, catering etc This opportunity would be of interest to people interested in sports development, youth work, hospitality, marketing and promotion as well as for girls and women with an interest in fitness and sport.

Session Volunteers for Climbing Programme

Urban Uprising (Aberdeen)
Postcode: AB24 5NN
Urban Uprising was launched in the UK in 2017 with the aim to improve the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of young people struggling to elevate themselves. Since then our programmes in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Bristol have reached hundreds of young people and seen their confidence, self-reliance and resilience grow alongside their climbing skills. Due to growing success, the team is now starting a new project in Aberdeen and recruiting Session Volunteers. This is a crucial role in the successful delivery of our unique climbing programme, with individuals being responsible for helping to run climbing sessions alongside qualified instructors, creating a consistent experience for groups and participants, and providing participants with a positive role model. It is a hugely rewarding role. Through a structured programme, you will help young people learn how to climb safely and responsibly, but also gain improved self-esteem, develop life and employment skills, find adventure and a sense of community. If you wish to be considered for the role, please complete the form accessed through the following link: bit.ly/UUvolunteer For more information or further details please contact Ben Campbell, Project Coordinator at email: ben@urbanuprising.org / tel.: 07754622448 / web: https://www.urbanuprising.org/support-us

Great Yellow Bumblebee Preservation project - Harris

Volunteer Centre Western Isles
Postcode: HS3 3BG
I would like to have the volunteers thinking about the environment we live in and trying to protect the Great Yellow Bumblebee while doing so. They would be learning all about the Bee and how essential all bees are for the worlds food consumption. When the project has completed for the year, i would like to be able to show the various volunteers/groups where their pots have gone and prove to them that volunteering alongside lots of different people can make a big impact on the environment. I hope this would encourage them to continue the planting and flowering in the coming years. I hope to bring a few volunteer groups together while doing this project. Retail Volunteer

Marie Curie Charity Shop - Bo'ness
Postcode: EH51 9ND
We're looking for friendly people who can spare 2-3 hours a week to help us in our Bo'ness charity shop. If you want to gain new skills, meet new people or be part of a fantastic team who go the extra mile to help us make a difference then we would love to hear from you! Our shops are an important part of how we raise the funds we need to support our patients and their loved ones, and we need volunteers to help us continue to run our shops successfully. You will be helping us with all aspects of running the shop; sorting through bags of donations, processing items for sale and serving our customers on the till. If you have an eye for fashion and design then we would love you to help us create attractive window displays with seasonal and other items, so that our customers want to come in and browse. You will receive full training when you join us, so no previous retail experience is necessary. If you love working with others and would enjoy volunteering in a place where no two days are the same then this could be the opportunity for you.
