Volunteer Trustees

Zero Waste Aberdeen
Postcode: AB11 5YU
We are a young democratically run organisation that needs to grow. At the moment we are a small group working at projects that reduce waste and we intend that Aberdeen and Shire become zero waste areas. That is, that everything we use becomes part of a circular economy and is not discarded needlessly to be tipped or burned. Currently, our main projects are :- *Go Green Café *Trash to Treasure *Men's Sheds *Planting Fruit Trees for Community Benefit These worthy projects are undertaken alongside family and work commitments but we need to do more if we are to make inroads to the waste we generate each day. That presents exciting opportunities for volunteers. Our next step then, is for more 'Trustees' to join with us to take on an officer of the board role, or to become an ordinary member and help steer the way forward to a successful reduction of waste to zero. If you’re/for more information then please do get in touch with Brian Allan at email brianaltenscc2@gmail.com or tel.: 07751275757.

Charity Trustees

Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR)
Postcode: AB25 1BT
Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR) was granted Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) charitable status in March this year. We are now looking to find talented, passionate and skilled people to fill some vacant seats on our Board of Trustees to help us grow and develop our innovative and solution focused new charity. This is a unique opportunity to help lay the foundations to ensure AiR has a long-term future as a charity with solid processes in place to ensure it meets its mission of: “To be a bridge from ‘dependence’ to ‘independence’ for the individual seeking to recover from problematic substance use and addictive behaviours”. This is such an exciting and invigorating prospect for individuals to get involved and be participant in the tsunami of change which is now gaining momentum and being driven by “Experts by Experience” and the vibrant Lived Experienced Communities which are blossoming, not only locally but are now established as a national phenomena. Since its conception, AiR and its members have worked tirelessly to establish and build collaborative relationships with professional services and third sector support agencies. We have consistently driven the message that individuals who have personal lived/living experience of active substance use, including Family members who have been affected by the addictive behaviours of a loved one, and the Recovery Communities they represent have something valid, essential and extremely beneficial to bring to described Recovery Orientated Systems of Care (ROSC). We can provide existing services and clinical structural systems with resources, skills and capabilities that they, no matter how much effort, time and money they invest, will never be able to offer or provide. So, it gives the greatest of pleasure to see this is now recognised on the highest levels that “Recoverists” can productively contribute to the design, development and delivery of truly person-centred ROSC. This being evidenced by the vision, philosophy and content of the Scottish Governments “Rights, Respect and Recovery” Drug and Alcohol Strategy. We also believe it is reaffirmed by the recent success in being granted funding from the Government’s National Development Fund, with our principle partner Alcohol and Drugs Action (ADA), for our ‘Recovery Peer Pathway’ joint two-year project. This collaborative venture will build on three years of pilot work to further establish and build proactive and productive Developmental Pathways within ADA and their Volunteer network while in synergy with AiR membership for individuals who desire to initiate change in their behaviours and outlook as they progress on their recovery journeys within, and imperatively out-with, statutory and formal support services. We believe that the blue sky thinking behind this project categorically and emphatically fits with the expectations, outcomes and concepts of the above Government policy. So, if you have lived experience, or a stakeholder interest, and a passion for recovery and are willing to give of yourself that another may learn, you will not find a better opportunity to indulge your appetite than from within Aberdeen in Recovery. For more information please contact Dermot Craig, Recovery Community Development Manager at E Mail: dermot@aberdeeninrecovery.org or tel.: 01224 638342 / Mobile: 07751 213108.

Camelon Tidy Clean and Green
Postcode: FK1 1XR
We are a small group of people working on a voluntary basis, committed to improving our local environment, organising regular litter picks and creating community growing spaces. Last year we created a community garden and hope to develop more in the future. Currently also helping local primary school with their Garden Club. We hold community events like Pop up Parks from time to time too. None of us have any expertise in anything to do with social media, so we are desperately seeking someone who can help us with this. We would love someone to help us create a Tidy Clean and Green Facebook page; link us in to local pages in order to publicise the work we do and events we organise. Creating a Tidy Clean and Green website would be brilliant too. A person with strengths in public relations would be helpful as well as being able to educate our group in the use of social media and maintaining the website.

Trustees

Age Peterhead
Postcode: AB42 1TD
We are recruiting new Trustees as part of planned succession and to bring strength, expertise, and engagement to our Board. We need people with knowledge and commitment to be part of Age Peterhead’s mission to serve older people. In particular, we are looking for Trustees with the following experience: finance, secretarial, and knowledge of challenges facing older people. The challenges and issues facing older people in Scotland have never been greater: and isolation and loneliness continue to be key issues affecting older people. Access to health and social care are vital issues for older people, similarly, our work in the community and in supporting the disabled, veterans, carers, and those affected by dementia, and increasing awareness of it. Our financial position is positive, but growing our income and doing more will always be key areas needed given the challenges people face in later life here in Peterhead. The charity needs trustees to support our team, and enhance our existing skill set. In finance, we need trustees who are able to contribute to ensuring we are sustainable financially and generate income to support our beneficiaries. so we invite interest from potential trustees with relevant experience. Older people have endured an extremely difficult time during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the opportunity to reconnect and stay connected is vital. We will be focusing on reducing the impact of loneliness and isolation through our Sitter/befriending service and how we can work with local community groups The loss of three trustees due to personal moves as well as succession planning for trustees who will retire shortly, means we would like to appoint people who have the knowledge and capacity to join us and support our vital work. General responsibilities To lead the charity and provide appropriate input, support, and constructive help to ensure Age Peterhead develops the most appropriate and effective strategy in support of its work on behalf of older people in the area. To review the financial and funding plans of the charity in order to ensure that the charity’s future plans can be provided for. To consider the charity’s partnerships with other service providers and its relationship with other similar charities. To contribute actively to the work of the board. Practitioner experience can cover a wide range of areas. We welcome applicants who can bring a valuable perspective on the issues affecting us as we grow older and how Age Peterhead should be influencing and working to help ensure we deliver as a charity for older people in the area. Engaging with our community is an important priority and something we would like to be more effective. We recognize that IT and digital skills could give us a valuable perspective on how we can more effectively serve and connect with older people in Peterhead, we recognize that diversity in the voices around our table will better reflect the communities we serve. If you believe you could add real value to our board table but don’t meet some or all of the criteria we have laid out, we would still love to hear from you. We particularly welcome candidates who have experience working directly with older people. Time commitment, it is anticipated that the duties of trustees are likely to take a few days a month. Office volunteers and those working from home meet as necessary. If our work is of interest, and you feel you could play a role in supporting our future direction, and ambitions, then we would love to hear from you. We hope that you might wish to join us. agepeterhead@gmail.com Telephone 01779 472331

Volunteer Fundraiser

Crossroads South Ayrshire
Postcode: KA9 2HQ
Crossroads is a registered charity which has been operating for 37 years in South Ayrshire (although also with a national footprint). We provide a highly needed service in offering a respite service for at home carers. The charity runs with a small office team supported by a team of Care Attendants and over seen by a Management Committee comprising of volunteers who each bring a different set of skills and expertise to aid the operation of the charity. Our next aim is to raise our profile in South Ayrshire and we would gladly welcome the support of volunteers who would like to share our aim and interest by supporting us, as a volunteer fundraiser. Ideally the volunteer would have a sales and marketing background, yet it is not mandatory as the sales pitch can be delivered by one of the committee members. The volunteer fundraiser would support by identifying donors, raising the group's profile, writing applications for funding opportunities, organising events, etc. The group meets on a Tuesday of every second month at 7pm in a meeting room at Biggart Hospital, Prestwick (where the office is located), yet most of the volunteering can easily be done remotely and perhaps meet with the team occasionally as required. Kindly fill in the contact us form on https://crossroads-sa.org.uk/contact.asp and we will get back to you at our earliest.
