Coastguard Rescue Officer - Lewis

We have exciting opportunities for people to join their local teams as a volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officer. Full Training, PPE and appropriate uniform is provided. Ideal candidates must live locally to their station (within 10-15minutes drive). The role is voluntary, but some remuneration is made for time spent training and for attendance at incidents. Emergency Response Volunteer (Thurso)

When there is a fire, flood or severe weather, we’re among the first to respond. From making a cup of tea to delivering the essentials, we work with other organisations to do what’s needed straight away. This service operates 24/7 and is staffed by volunteers on an on call rota To be a part of this Emergency Response Service, we are looking volunteers who: Can be on call for 24 hours a month, but not necessarily regular volunteering Can get to Thurso Fire Station KW14 8PS within 30 minutes. Are available to undertake required e-learning modules and Zoom training sessions in the first few months of volunteering (please see details in the Learning Pathway attached) plus other service specific trainings as required. Can ideally drive and have access to a vehicle, though this is not essential. Drivers should have held a driving licence for at least 2 years which allows them to drive in the UK. Due to the nature of this role, applicants must undergo an Enhanced PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check.

Volunteer Fundraising Crew - Buckie

Our Buckie lifeboat crew couldn’t launch without a strong fundraising crew in support. You could save lives at sea by helping organise and run fundraising activities in the area. Could you spare a couple of hours to help at a store collection? As part of our fundraising crew you will be supporting the lifesaving work of the volunteer lifeboat crew. The RNLI has a wide network of local fundraising teams/groups organising a broad range of events and activities each year raising vital life-saving funds. The teams/groups are supported by a Community Manager. The range and frequency of the events is determined by the team members themselves and the amount of time volunteered is up to the individual. We are keen to welcome new people with new ideas and new skills into our local team so that we can develop our programme of fundraising activities and events in new, creative and innovative ways and contribute to saving more lives at sea. Together we save lives at sea. The impact you will make You will enable volunteer RNLI lifeboat crews to save lives at sea by carrying out and supporting vital fundraising activity in your local community.

WaterAid Speaker Network Volunteers

WaterAid Speakers are trained volunteers that deliver inspiring talks and workshops, to raise awareness about the importance of clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, to transform peoples’ lives for good. Our Speaker volunteers engage audiences about the important work of WaterAid, inspiring them to take action, as they speak with schools, universities, businesses, youth groups, religious places of worship, service organisations, and many more. WaterAid Speakers: •Deliver a minimum of four talks or workshops per year, either online and/or face to face. •Deliver talks or workshops on key days such as: World Water Day on 22 March, World Toilet Day on 19 November, Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May and Global Handwashing Day on 15 October. •Contact new audiences to organise and deliver talk and workshop opportunities. •Complete online Speaker Network training and adhere to volunteer guidance and best practise. •Make use of our public speaking resources (such as PowerPoint presentations) included in our Speaker e-newsletter, emails, and online resource library. •Keep up to date with our key messages, appeals, campaigns, fundraising and volunteering. •Regularly liaise with the Speaker Network team about talks and workshops. •Provide feedback on talks or workshops by completing the online evaluations. •Provide support to new Speakers around their public speaking development. •Demonstrate the WaterAid values including being considerate when representing WaterAid and always leaving others with a positive view of our organisation and the work that we do. Older People Befriending Service COVID-19 Support Volunteers

*Help people who feel alone - just a few hours a week from you could make the future brighter for someone experiencing loneliness or social isolation.* Hand of Solace is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation which helps people who may be lonely or at risk of loneliness and social isolation. -What our volunteers do: Loneliness and social isolation affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Being or feeling alone can have a devastating impact on people’s health and wellbeing, as well as on communities, hospitals and other public services. Through just a few hours a week, you could provide a huge help for someone experiencing loneliness or social isolation. -Support for people and volunteering during COVID-19 Pandemic: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our befriending service to our older people has now transitioned from face to face to phone/video contact. We now also offer shopping, prescription collection etc. where necessary to the older people. Community Facilitator

Being a Community Facilitator is all about delivering a variety of lifesaving first aid skills in community engagement workshops and projects, within local communities, and primary and secondary schools. A lot of these projects involve talking about and demonstrating the basics of first aid to community groups that can include children, young people, and vulnerable adults. The role is all about promoting first aid awareness and helping to achieve our mission to create a nation of lifesavers. Minimum hours is 20 per year. Skills: Able to work as part of a team, excellent communication skills, excellent organisation and planning skills, positive attitude, flexible and adaptable to needs of charity. Interests: Please apply if you are interested in supporting your local community or interested in first aid, and/or looking to expand and develop your public speaking skills. Experience: Please apply if you have experience of public speaking, a basic understanding of first aid, or maybe you’re studying a medical related degree (or even have one) and looking to volunteer.
