Serving Community Volunteers (Kinloss)

SSAFA
Postcode: IV36 3UH
SSAFA, the armed forces charity that supports armed forces personnel, their families and veterans is currently setting up an exciting Serving Community Team in Kinloss and would welcome volunteers from the area. You do not need a military background to volunteer; people from outside the serving community but who live in the local area are very welcomed to get in touch. Volunteers with the Kinloss Serving Community Team help look after all those working and living on and near Kinloss Barracks and they do this in a number of ways. As a Serving Community volunteer, you will be helping the serving community access financial, practical, and emotional support when they need it. Depending on the role you choose, you might be fundraising, managing finances, or helping us with marketing. SSAFA is seeking to refresh their offering to the serving community, to ensure they give tailored support to each site, that is in tune with the needs of today's serving personnel. Currently, there are administration roles, (supporting meeting and events) roles to help distribute funding grants to those in need, welcoming, supporting and coordinating other volunteers, and volunteers needed to help plan and organise networking and community events. Everyone who offers their time to volunteer with SSAFA makes a huge difference. The roles are varied, flexible and very rewarding, giving back to those who are serving. It makes a real difference to the people living in the Kinloss area and all help is greatly appreciated. For more details please visit https://www.ssafa.org.uk/volunteer/serving-community-teams and send us a message.

Looking for people to help us take Early Intervention to the next stage. People who can help us to sharpen the governance of the organisation to make us into the kind of organisation we aspire to be. This opportunity would be attractive to someone with experience of committee work, or people, who want to gain experience in managing and developing an organisation. Over the next year we intend to make an application to become a Scottish Charity and this will be a good opportunity to become familiar with this process. Early Intervention offers the opportunity to get involved with an organisation with plans to do great things to support neurodivergent children and their families. There is a great reward in being involved in this. Although experience of committee work is desirable, full training will be offered to interested suitable candidates. Treasurer, Vice Chair and Welfare Officer Opportunities

Club Sport Aberdeen
Postcode: AB15 6LN
ClubSport Aberdeen is a vibrant body directed by the clubs, for the clubs. As an independent charity, we provide a unified voice for sport clubs in Aberdeen at the top level across the city through our relationship with the Active Aberdeen Partnership. Our purpose is not only to provide the AAP with club input and a club perspective on arising matters, but also to ensure that Aberdeen has safe, sustainable and supported clubs. It does so by using expertise from within the club network as well as from partners in the wider network. This gives Aberdeen’s clubs the ability to develop and grow their membership, workforce and structure to provide their members with the best possible experience of the sport. Membership is open to all clubs across Aberdeen, and generally around 70-80 clubs register with us on an annual basis. The board of Club Sport Aberdeen is made up of a board of volunteer trustees who meet regularly to discuss programmes and initiatives that will benefit sports clubs across the city, which includes projects such as the North East Youth Panel and Active Schools Voucher projects. Jedburgh Scout Group Treasurer

South East Scotland Scouts (Scottish Borders)
Postcode: TD8 6HH
We are looking for new Group Treasurer and we're counting on YOU! Are you good at keeping track of money? Do you have a good head for numbers without losing sight of the big picture? If so, we could use your talents to help transform the lives of young people at the Jed Scout Group. No previous Scouts experience, no problem! This is a non-uniformed volunteering role. Role Description: This is your chance to be extraordinary and help in a flexible way! Joining our committee is not as posh as it sounds but we do like to have fun. • Minimal commitment – only a couple of hours a month • Flexible volunteering to fit around you – your skills/interests/time • Alongside like-minded people – we're easy to get on with • Great fun - it sounds formal, but it isn't! • Make a difference – get that ‘feel good factor’ The Treasurer will provide sound financial administration, support and information to the Executive Committee and Group. You will help manage and monitor the financial activities of the Group. You will prepare and present financial reports and accounts and while supporting budgets and the financial planning process in accordance with legal regulations. Though ‘Executive’ sounds a bit formal, it is not like that at all! We are a relaxed group of like-minded individuals! This role is ideal for those who do not necessarily wish to work directly with young people but would like to help to support and develop Scouting a couple of hours or so a month. This volunteer role is more about the skills you can bring to the role so please never assume your skills won’t be of use. And, you don’t need to have had Scouts experience before or be Bear Grylls to join in. Really! Everyone is welcome.

Joining our Executive Committee is an exciting way to be part of Scouts in a non-uniformed role, playing a valuable role in making sure we deliver the best experiences to our young people. Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR)
Postcode: AB25 1BT
Aberdeen in Recovery (AiR) was granted Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) charitable status in March this year. We are now looking to find talented, passionate and skilled people to fill some vacant seats on our Board of Trustees to help us grow and develop our innovative and solution focused new charity. This is a unique opportunity to help lay the foundations to ensure AiR has a long-term future as a charity with solid processes in place to ensure it meets its mission of: “To be a bridge from ‘dependence’ to ‘independence’ for the individual seeking to recover from problematic substance use and addictive behaviours”. This is such an exciting and invigorating prospect for individuals to get involved and be participant in the tsunami of change which is now gaining momentum and being driven by “Experts by Experience” and the vibrant Lived Experienced Communities which are blossoming, not only locally but are now established as a national phenomena. Since its conception, AiR and its members have worked tirelessly to establish and build collaborative relationships with professional services and third sector support agencies. We have consistently driven the message that individuals who have personal lived/living experience of active substance use, including Family members who have been affected by the addictive behaviours of a loved one, and the Recovery Communities they represent have something valid, essential and extremely beneficial to bring to described Recovery Orientated Systems of Care (ROSC). We can provide existing services and clinical structural systems with resources, skills and capabilities that they, no matter how much effort, time and money they invest, will never be able to offer or provide. So, it gives the greatest of pleasure to see this is now recognised on the highest levels that “Recoverists” can productively contribute to the design, development and delivery of truly person-centred ROSC. This being evidenced by the vision, philosophy and content of the Scottish Governments “Rights, Respect and Recovery” Drug and Alcohol Strategy. We also believe it is reaffirmed by the recent success in being granted funding from the Government’s National Development Fund, with our principle partner Alcohol and Drugs Action (ADA), for our ‘Recovery Peer Pathway’ joint two-year project. This collaborative venture will build on three years of pilot work to further establish and build proactive and productive Developmental Pathways within ADA and their Volunteer network while in synergy with AiR membership for individuals who desire to initiate change in their behaviours and outlook as they progress on their recovery journeys within, and imperatively out-with, statutory and formal support services. We believe that the blue sky thinking behind this project categorically and emphatically fits with the expectations, outcomes and concepts of the above Government policy. So, if you have lived experience, or a stakeholder interest, and a passion for recovery and are willing to give of yourself that another may learn, you will not find a better opportunity to indulge your appetite than from within Aberdeen in Recovery. For more information please contact Dermot Craig, Recovery Community Development Manager at E Mail: dermot@aberdeeninrecovery.org or tel.: 01224 638342 / Mobile: 07751 213108.

Zero Waste Aberdeen
Postcode: AB11 5YU
We are a young democratically run organisation that needs to grow. At the moment we are a small group working at projects that reduce waste and we intend that Aberdeen and Shire become zero waste areas. That is, that everything we use becomes part of a circular economy and is not discarded needlessly to be tipped or burned. Currently, our main projects are :- *Go Green Café *Trash to Treasure *Men's Sheds *Planting Fruit Trees for Community Benefit These worthy projects are undertaken alongside family and work commitments but we need to do more if we are to make inroads to the waste we generate each day. That presents exciting opportunities for volunteers. Our next step then, is for more 'Trustees' to join with us to take on an officer of the board role, or to become an ordinary member and help steer the way forward to a successful reduction of waste to zero. If you’re/for more information then please do get in touch with Brian Allan at email brianaltenscc2@gmail.com or tel.: 07751275757.

Energy saving advice – helping people with switching tariffs, cutting their bills through energy-saving behaviours, advising on availability of grants and loans, helping people find the help they are eligible for and training volunteers to be energy champions who can support their friends and neighbours to save energy and save money and working to promote community-led social and environmental projects including energy advice, local food and growing initiatives. REAP also offers community consultation and research services on a consultancy basis. We welcome volunteer directors to join our staff team and current Board who are keen to help REAP make a difference in our local communities. Moray Firth Credit Union

If you want to give back to your community, this is a great way to do it. The Moray Firth Credit Union is seeking people who are interested in the exciting opportunity to serve on their Board. The Credit Union has a long history of serving the local community. If you have an interest in people, community or even if you want to learn more about the unique role a credit union plays in the lives of the people and communities they serve, (and have some spare time) the Moray Firth Credit Union would be delighted to hear from you. We are looking to replace losing a board member due to ill health, but would ideally like to replace them with two people. From a skills audit the board would like to attract someone who has a business background who can bring support and advice in relation to social enterprise, to give advice and assistance on how we can generate our own income and be less reliant on grants, although we are at present financially secure. We would also be interested in bringing on board someone with a media background for our publicity and marketing both to support and advise on the planned re-branding of the organisation to be more inclusive, but anyone with an interest in young people and developing services in the area would be welcome. We are also in the final stages of finalising our strategic plan and this will support the direction of the organisation over the next 3 years, so this is quite an exciting time to be part of Beyond Earlston . The meetings are held in Earlston, but we travel around so that board members can see the groups in each location as well as meet with the volunteers and staff. We have our Volunteer Friendly award and offer a comprehensive induction to the organisation to ensure that we are inclusive. We are happy to meet with anyone who is interested in finding out more and ask questions from the other board members before any commitment is made.

Biggar Community Toilets Working Group
Postcode: ML12 6DH
The Community toilets, an integral part of Biggar Corn Exchange, have been managed by a small volunteer Working Group since 2015. Although a lot of work is involved, the service has run fairly well. Many users are very appreciative of the cleanliness and availability of the toilets and leave notes and messages to this effect. The appreciation of the community and visitors makes it very rewarding. Some of the Working group members have been involved now since 2015, and feel that it is time to step back – at least from executive responsibility. We are seeking some replacements within the next few months. The Working Group (WG) is a sub-committee of Biggar Corn Exchange. It comprises a Chair, two BCE trustees and four others. We employ professional cleaners, but WG members carry out the following operational activities: • Ordering, receiving, storing and stock-checking consumable items (toilet paper, cleaning materials disinfectant, etc). • Emptying cash from the automatic door (twice weekly) and honesty box; counting and banking takings. • Checking facility daily for cleanliness and vandalism • Locking facility and switching off lights at end of each day. • Planning any late opening (e.g. at New Year) • Collecting, emptying and replacing collecting boxes from numerous shops and premises around the town. Counting and banking the donations. • Maintaining budget vs actual spreadsheets We are very happy to chat tp potential volunteers, and provide more detail about how they could become involved in supporting essential facility. Volunteers are typically for at least 2 hours per week.

Secretary

St Magnus Centre
Postcode: KW15 1PA
Our role is to keep the Centre running as a non-profit to provide meeting spaces for outreach work by local organisations. At present, the small Committee is made up of the Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and members from Cathedral Session and congregational/non-congregational members. The Secretary keeps the Committee updated by email on agendas, forthcoming meetings, takes notes at meetings and distributes them afterwards. The role also involves being the lead for a team which compiles a rota of volunteers to staff the Centre from April to September each year. This is done by group email to our existing volunteers and hard copy to those not on email asking them to record their availability for the upcoming season. A simple spreadsheet is used to record this work. The team then use the information to compile the rota. Once a year, at the end of the visitor season, the Secretary writes to all volunteers to invite them to a thank-you tea/coffee and light refreshments afternoon. A volunteer Secretary will be able to use and develop their skills in using email, word processing and maintaining a database of volunteers. In addition, the Secretary plays a key role in supporting the Chair and being part of a small and committed team. It is a role which is greatly appreciated.

Trustee

Home Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire (SL)
Postcode: G20 8TS
Charity Trusteeships can be incredibly rewarding as well as supporting personal and professional development. Along with your fellow Trustees and the Director of the organisation, you will set the long-term strategic direction of HSGNNL and provide advice and guidance to the other Trustees and the Senior Management Team in your specialist field where applicable. The Trustees ensure that performance is monitored and managed through internal controls and delegation and approve key strategies and policies to allow the organisation to achieve its objectives. The Board of Trustees currently meets either online or in person every 6 weeks (early evening), although this is currently being reviewed. Trustees will also be asked to support sub-groups as required. The initial appointment is for a 3-year term with the opportunity for reappointment. Role of a Trustee - General Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that HSGNNL achieves its core purpose. Whilst all involved in the work of HSGNNL, including staff, volunteers, and trustees, have a shared vision and passion of supporting families to be the best they can be, the Trustees have responsibility for the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that HSGNNL has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as important, they support and challenge the Senior Management Team to enable HSGNNL to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission. Trustees have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals. Duties: • Support and provide advice on HSGNNL’s purpose, vision, goals and activities. • Provide challenge to the Director and Senior Management Team • Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation. • Oversee HSGNNL’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress. • Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation. • Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively. • Review and approve HSGNNL’s financial statements. • Provide support and challenge to HSGNNL’s Director in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs. • Keep abreast of changes in HSGNNL’s operating environment. • Contribute to regular reviews of HSGNNL’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, sub-group meetings and be adequately prepared to contribute to discussions. • Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect HSGNNL’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests. • Contribute to the broader promotion of HSGNNL’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge, and contacts.
