Did you know that there are RSPB Youth Groups across the UK, and our network is growing and expanding, so we need more volunteers to lead and shape our youth group teams.
You could be the person we need to join this adventure and help support young people in your area to learn about, explore and help the wildlife around them in a fun and engaging way.
Why we love our youth groups!
We know that if young people learn to love wildlife and nature, they will want to protect it and be empowered to take meaningful action to defend it in their own communities.
You could be part of a team of like-minded, enthusiastic people who love nature and want our younger generations to experience that sense of awe when encountering something new or the excitement of being part of a bigger movement to save nature.
What do you need to know?
You will use your existing skills to lead and motivate a team of dedicated volunteers, delegating tasks by getting to know everyone’s strengths and experiences.
You will be the main link with the RSPB youth team and be responsible for sharing information to the youth group. The RSPB Youth Team will support you to ensure the group is using our framework and operating within our standards.
You will need to be confident with using a computer for example to communicate using email to send us required documentation.
With your team you will plan the programme and run the sessions in a safe and fun way. The programme will be made up of activities where young people can experience and take meaningful action to protect nature.
You will ensure that the group’s finances are managed in accordance with our policies and submit annual financial returns.
You will liaise with reserves, local groups and other wildlife organisations. You will invite regular feedback from your group leaders, and most importantly the young people to evaluate the success of your meetings and work out what needs to be done to be even better.
You need to enjoy working with young people – they are the heart of what we do. You will be asked to complete a variety of training including induction and safeguarding and data protection.
The youth groups usually meet monthly, and Main Leaders usually spend six to eight hours per month outside of the meetings on the role depending on how the responsibilities are shared within the team. Members of the Phoenix group are typically aged between 13 to 18.
Why not get in touch and see how you would fit into this role?

South Ayrshire Council Ranger Service are offering the opportunity for young persons aged between 13-18 to learn new, or develop existing, skills in practical outdoor work. These sessions will introduce essential environmental conservation skills like basic bushcraft, use of manual hand tools and invasive non-native species control. The programme will run on a fortnightly basis (every second Saturday) and from 10am-12pm. Booking is essential so to book a place, or for more information, please feel free to contact the ranger service via ranger.service@south-ayrshire.gov.uk
Our next session will take place on Saturday 21st October 2023 and then every two weeks thereafter. Sessions are suitable for one-off volunteering so attendance is not required at every session.
Our meeting point is Rozelle Lodge, Rozelle Park, Monument Road, Ayr, KA7 4NQ
The Aberdeen City Council Ranger Service is expanding its highly successful volunteer ranger programme. We are recruiting committed and enthusiastic individuals to assist the Ranger Service at a variety of sites around the city. The work involved is varied and, where possible, tailored to the volunteer's interests. This would be a perfect opportunity for people wanting to develop their CV, to get out and learn more about the landscape, wildlife of local area or even just wanting to get out and enjoy some practical work in an interesting setting. We do ask that where possible volunteers commit to joining as many work days as they can, these will normally run once or twice a week through the year and will allow us to help you develop your skills and explore your interests. However if you only want to work in your local area, or if you are only interested in certain volunteer tasks, we are happy to only contact you when a relevant opportunity arises. We are also happy for people to join one of our sessions on a “taster” basis before committing long term. If you are interested in using this opportunity towards a John Muir Award, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Saltire Award or any other qualification please just let us know and we can see what we can do to help. Young people aged under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. We are a recipient of the Volunteer Friendly Award national quality standard - all volunteers are therefore guaranteed an extremely good welcome and experience volunteering with us.
For an informal chat and further details please contact: Duncan McNeill (Countryside Ranger) at Email: countrysideranger@aberdeencity.gov.uk / Tel: 01224 326429.
Tayside Re-Users need volunteers who can fix furniture. Furniture repairers play an important role in ensuring that many items which would otherwise be thrown away are recycled and sold in their shop. If you have a background in furniture repair or joinery, this role is perfect for you! Or come and learn some new skills in sanding, painting and varnishing.
Tayside Re-users receives donations from many sources and often these need to be collected - from our Hub, recycling centres, businesses and members of the public. Sold items also need to be delivered to the customer. As a Van & Warehouse Assistant, you help the Van Driver by collecting items from donors and making deliveries to customers. This involves handling heavy items such as furniture or white goods either on or off a van, into storage or into the sales area while keeping areas safe and tidy. You will need a good level of fitness for this role.
