Kirkmichael Shop and Café is a small, friendly organisation run by a combination of paid and volunteer staff. There are always at least two people on at one time and the volunteer shifts tend to be three hours long. The main activities are serving in the Shop and Café, greeting and helping customers, stocking the shelves, light cleaning and food and drinks preparation [optional] .
The Carrick Community Food Garden (CCFG) invites you to discover the joy of growing fruit and vegetables, building and creating with members of your community garden, where everyone shares the work and the harvest.
Being part of a community garden is a great activity to do by yourself or with friends and family and a good opportunity to get outdoors, learn new skills, meet new and like-minded people, keep active, improve mental health and contribute towards your community and the environment.
All work is supervised, tasks could include clearing the ground in preparation for food growing, planting, seed sowing, weeding, digging, harvesting produce, building raised beds, shifting compost and general site maintenance or occasional help with events and sharing ideas.
We share the harvest with our community food pantry, contributors, the groups we support and when possible we cook and share meals on site.
We encourage people of all ages and levels of fitness, from complete beginners to experienced growers there is a way for you to contribute to your community garden. At CCFG we are very flexible, you can drop in to learn more and see what it's like before you decide to contribute your time and energy.
Our volunteer cinema helpers support us in setting up the venue (the Carrick Centre, Maybole), meeting and greeting visitors, collecting tickets, etc.
If required, they may be asked to introduce the film and help out with the distribution and sale of refreshments.
The Drop in Centre is held every Wednesday in Loans Village Hall between 13:30 and 16:15 and it urgently needs two new volunteers so that it can keep running. One volunteer is stepping down now and the other at the end of the year due to failing health.
This would involve buying cakes and milk, keeping the receipts, collecting money and serving tea to some of the more elderly members of our Community. For some of the locals who come along, it’s the only day of the week that they get out.
If you’re interested in helping out then feel free to drop-in yourself when one of the sessions are running so you can see first hand what it’s all about.
Looking for a fulfilling and rewarding experience? Join our team at our care homes for the elderly as a volunteer and make a difference in the lives of our residents. Whether its befriending and chatting with our residents or organising and participating in leisure and social activities, your contribution will have a significant impact on their well-being and quality of life. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people and create meaningful connections with our residents. Join us today and be a part of a community that values and appreciates the importance of companionship and human connection.
