South Ayrshire Council Ranger Service are offering the opportunity for young persons aged between 13 to 18 to learn new, or develop existing skills in practical outdoor work.
These sessions will introduce essential environmental conservation skills like basic bushcraft, use of manual hand tools and invasive non-native species control.
The programme will run once a month on a Sunday, from 10am to 12pm.
Booking is essential so to book a place or for more information, please feel free to contact the ranger service via ranger.service@south-ayrshire.gov.uk
The sessions are held with the collaboration of the Friends of Fullarton Woods - a small charity concerned with the restoration and care of the ancient woodlands of Troon. In operation since 2015, raising funds for improvements and planting. We host regular volunteer work parties, tackling jobs such as invasive species control, tree planting and repairing paths. Together with the South Ayrshire Ranger Service and Scottish Wildlife Trust, Ayrshire, we regularly involve schools and community groups in woodland activities.
No experience or tools required. We have tasks to suit all abilities.
Put your skills to use, learn new ones and play an active role in your local community.
Volunteering is easier than you think, with full support and training, you can volunteer on a flexible basis. Give young people the skills to succeed in life and discover how being part of the Scouting family can be rewarding for you as it is to them.
North Angus & District Scouts require a wide range of volunteer roles - from casual helpers to leaders, trainers, trustees and more – we have a role for everyone. We also offer flexible volunteering roles too, so we can fit around you and the time that you want to give to Scouting.
We have 8 groups in North Angus, but 2 are more desperate for help. These are our Letham and Edzell Groups.
What do volunteers do?
Week by week, our volunteers empower thousands of young people to learn new skills, make new friends and stand on their own two feet. They’re our everyday heroes. They shape young people’s lives for the better, and find out a whole lot about themselves in the process, too.
Today, there are nearly 60,000 young people on waiting lists to join us in the UK. We’re more relevant and more needed than ever, but it’s not always easy to keep up with the demand.
That’s where you come in
You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers and skill sharers. We’re talking about minibus drivers and first aiders. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family.
Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the
local town hall, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread a group of very hungry eleven-year-olds - no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great.
We provide the training.
All of our adult volunteers receive full induction and ongoing training and support. Our training has been recognised with a National Training Award by UK Skills and over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives.
You show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life.
As long as you're over 18, you can help out as an adult volunteer in Scouting. There is no upper age limit for adult volunteers.
Sounds fun? Worthwhile? It is.

Ninewells Community Garden is looking for a new trustee to support our Charity to grow and develop. Would you like to join the Board of a local charity which works to improve the health & wellbeing of children, young people and adults?
Ninewells Community Garden is a small local charity and exists to promote physical activity and mental health through community gardening. It sits within the grounds of Ninewells Hospital and Medical School and within the Menzieshill and Charleston communities.
Despite being a small charity we consistently achieve remarkable outcomes with minimal resources and are often told we have improved people’s lives. We rely on a dedicated team of staff, trustees and volunteers to maintain our garden and develop and deliver new opportunities.
We are seeking an additional trustee to be our Treasurer. The Board is currently made up of 8 members and meets every 6 weeks and is looking to recruit a new member. You will be part of a small and friendly team of trustees and staff who are passionate about how gardening & being in green space increases our feeling of wellness and reduces social isolation.
The main duties are to maintain an overview of the charity’s financial affairs and ensure its financial viability; control expenditure; maintain proper financial records and procedures; and fulfil regulatory reporting requirements. You will work with our current Treasurer who wishes to step down from the role in the New Year.
As Ninewells Community Garden does not employ a finance officer or company secretary, this is a hands-on role covering the full range of financial, accounting, regulatory and governance issues.
Our trustees are all volunteers, most of whom live or work in the local community, and all of whom use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern our service, shape strategy, and give direction to the charity. This is an opportunity for you to make a real difference to the charity and to the local community.
Treasurer Role
· Oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
· Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place.
· Monitor and report on the financial health of the Charity
· Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits
