What Oxfam does
Oxfam is a movement of people from around the world who won’t live with
poverty. We have two key aims:
Responding to emergencies happening in the world now, giving vital
support to people facing poverty due to conflict, climate change and
natural disasters.
Empowering communities to challenge and change systems that promote
inequality, so together we can beat poverty for good.
Oxfam shops have been fundraising to support Oxfam’s work since 1947,
raising millions every year to support people facing poverty. Find out more

Following a four-year refurbishment, we opened our brand-new museum exhibition, shop, and café in July 2021. This is an exciting time to join us as we welcome visitors into the new museum for the 2022 season.
The gardening volunteers are a friendly team of volunteers who work all year round to maintain the extensive gardens around the David Livingstone Birthplace. They play an important role in making the grounds accessible, attractive, and enjoyable for the wide range of people that visit the grounds.
Key activities include grass cutting, weeding, hedge trimming, tidying the grounds, planting, and leaf clearance.
Through shared gardening activities, environmental improvements and events, Grow 73 aims to improve the health and well-being of our community and make Rutherglen the place to be. Their group of volunteers meet every Monday morning from 10am until 11.30am/12pm at their base in Overtoun Park, the shipping container in the area of the park near to the BMX track and health centre.
The sessions are free and open to anyone.
As a volunteer with Grow 73 you will be part of a friendly, hardworking team, discovering new skills and interests and making a positive contribution to your community. This is an opportunity to have fun, meet new people and gain experience in a hands-on environment where you will see your efforts make a real difference. Please pop along and join in – no gardening experience or equipment required (just bring gardening gloves!) Grow 73 are currently in negotiations with SLC to lease 3 disused bowling greens in Overtoun Park to develop a fantastic community garden so this is a great time to join up. Volunteers must live in the G72/73 postcode area.
Due to Covid 19 we are not serving hot drinks so volunteers are encouraged to bring their own if they wish, as well as their own gloves if possible. Grow 73 is disinfecting the tools after use and will be abiding by social distancing rules.
Please bring comfortable , weather proof clothes as we generally don't have a place to shelter.
We are looking for a volunteer to join our C3R project who is passionate about Climate Action and interested in learning more about sustainable practices. You will be outreaching to members of the Ukrainian Community, getting them involved with the project. Excellent opportunity to gain experience in the environmental field.
Skills you will earn:
Developing leadership skills
Social media content creation
Assisting with event planning
Admin work
People skills
