The Food Train is an award-winning charity which operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible.
We have a large number of older people in Falkirk experiencing loneliness and isolation who enjoy getting out and speaking to others from their local area. Our volunteer outing helpers assist our members in accessing trips to local cafes and places of interest. If you like chatting, meeting people and getting out and about then this could be the role for you!
The role involves:
- Collecting and returning home older people, either as a chaperone on a minibus operated by a local company or in your own vehicle if preferred.
- Updating staff after outings and completing any monitoring/reviewing as required.
- Informing staff of any concerns, accidents, or complaints
- Option to attend volunteer meetings, training and social events throughout the year
If you have some time to spare and want to help older people and meet new people then we would love to hear from you!
The Food Train is an award-winning charity which operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible.
Our driver volunteers drive our small vans with another volunteer helper beside you, delivering grocery shopping to older people in the local community. Our shopping service members are so grateful for this service, which is a lifeline for many and an important source of social contact, as much as providing access to food and helping our members live longer and more independently in their own homes. This is a great way to use your spare time to help older people in your local community!
The role involves:
- Driving a medium sized van, following a delivery route with a volunteer helper.
- Delivering food shopping to older people in the Falkirk area.
- Loading and unloading small grocery boxes.
- Assisting with putting away shopping in people's homes.
- Completing a small amount of paperwork.
- Either meeting the Food Train van at the supermarket or collecting it from the Food Train Falkirk office in the morning (we have arrangements so you can leave your car free of charge).
If you are interested then we would love to hear from you!
Our veterans tell us that transport difficulties are one of the biggest barriers they face. Living with significant sight loss can make getting around a lot harder, as driving inevitably becomes impossible and public transport is often a lot more challenging to navigate alone. Difficulty in getting around can lead in turn to increased isolation, making it harder to take part in social activities or access support.
We’re looking for safe and reliable volunteer drivers with their own cars to offer transport to our veterans over short distances.
As a volunteer driver, you’ll help ensure that veterans with sight loss are able to take part in activities that provide social connections and support, and that they are able to access vital services.
You will help us to improve the quality of life of people using our services and play a vital role in easing isolation.
At Cats Protection, we offer a free and confidential fostering service for cats whose families are fleeing domestic abuse so they can rest assured their cat will be taken care of until they can be safely reunited. Referrals are handled by a specialist and experienced team, who support owners referring to the service, arrange to collect cats, and organise foster placements through a wonderful network of dedicated Lifeline volunteers.
By fostering with Lifeline, you’ll be helping us to support someone in need of a temporary home for their cat. We’ll cover all costs so all you need to do is provide a loving home for your foster cat and send us lots of photos so we can give their owner updates. Fostering with our service is completely confidential, so you won’t actually know anything about the owner and they also won’t know your identity either. All communication goes through our dedicated Lifeline team to maintain anonymity.

The Volunteer Outreach Support Driver (VOSD) is at the heart of Fares4Free by making sure that our clients are where they need to be at the right time. They will be responsible for checking their vehicle before and after work and keeping it clean inside and out.
VOSDs are our designated area specialists who understand the communities they operate within fully and the wide range of services available to them. They are passionate about getting it right, are able communicators and focused on using their experience to connect people with the help that they need.
Enjoy driving? Want experience in a Criminal Justice setting? Or perhaps you already have some experience and want to contribute in another way… Sacro’s Travel Service in Edinburgh is recruiting for more volunteer drivers.
The Travel Service aims to provide a regular transport service to many of Scotland’s prisons and the State Hospital at Carstairs. The service is part of Sacro’s Throughcare Service enabling prisoners to maintain important contact with their families and friends which research has shown helps to reduce reoffending. We pick up our registered passengers from their home address and take them to their arranged visit before returning them home again completely free of charge.
Sacro’s work could not be successfully conducted without the dedication and skill of its volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering with us, we would ask you to be able to commit to volunteering for at least a year and be regularly available. We reimburse our volunteer drivers for their mileage at a rate of 50p per mile.
Do you want to meet new people and help them get out and about? As a minibus driver, you will gain knowledge of your local community and can volunteer in your own time.
You can use your driving skills and friendly personality to help people get out and about both inside and outside their local communities.
As a volunteer minibus driver, you could be taking a group of people to a club, day centre or a trip out. You will work with each groups representative to support people to board and disembark the minibus safely using the steps or the wheelchair lift.
You must have a D1 on your licence and be willing to undertake MIDAS training with a local provider. The cost of this will be covered by Royal Voluntary Service.
