Fairway Fife is a Peer Mentoring Charity supporting young adults with learning disabilities and autism from 16 years of age. They recognise that all people, regardless of ability or disability, have unique gifts and strengths to contribute positively to their community. By recruiting, training, and professionally supporting committed volunteers of a similar age (Peer Mentors), their members are helped to live their dreams by accessing everyday experiences. This could be as simple as socialising in the community, outdoor activities, sports, creative arts, or other activities relating to health & wellbeing.
Whether you want to share your skills and experience with others or are looking to build confidence to develop new skills, volunteering as a peer mentor is a perfect starting point. Their professional and experienced facilitators support all their volunteers to ensure they gain the valuable life & work-related experience required to help secure further education opportunities or employment in the future.
From mentoring in small groups at social events to large team sporting events, mentors can develop at a pace that suits them best and gain the relevant experience that suits their needs. Mentoring with Fairway Fife also allowallows volunteers to connect with other professionals and organisations we work in partnership with. There are many opportunities available to Peer Mentors, such as completing Youth Achievement Awards, Saltire Awards, Foundation Apprenticeship & Career Ready Placements etc. - Not to mention making new friends, learning new skills, and having fun - all for free!!
Everyone can feel lonely and isolated at times, especially if experiencing hardship.
In response to the effects of loneliness and isolation on peoples wellbeing (physical, emotional, social and mental health), that the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated, TLC have responded to this need and further developed our befriending service to combat the loneliness and isolation felt by many in our city. Our service is provided to anyone aged 18 years and over in Aberdeen who is experiencing or at risk of loneliness or isolation. Your help as a volunteer would therefore make a real difference.
Our expertly trained and compassionate volunteers not only provide a lifeline to people, in the form of friendship, but also a helping hand to reconnect to the community, bringing joy and passion back into people’s lives.
If you would like to be a beacon of hope to someone in need, please do apply to join our fantastic team of volunteers. For further information please email us at volunteer@tlc.org.uk
BECYCLE Workshop SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation – charity number: SC053291) is a small, wholly volunteer operated and donations based community bike workshop that provides a free place to access practical help, education, learning and advice for maintaining and repairing bikes. The workshop also provides free bikes to children (u18) and loans out bikes to anyone, with a fully returnable deposit system. It is currently open twice a week (8 hours), every week of the year, no matter the weather.
Every person that volunteers at the workshop becomes a bike mechanic first and foremost - no matter how much experience you have just now with bikes or tools. You’ll learn quickly and surprise yourself with the amount you can take onboard - and you’ll be well supported by volunteers with decades of experience at fixing bikes and helping people. Don’t worry though about being the odd one out, none of us get paid and never will.
In addition further roles we are looking for specialists in are;
- Accountant
- Fundraising
- Graphic Design
- Social Media Manager
- Videographer
On top of the two in-person sessions (Monday and Wednesday 4-8pm), most volunteers offer their time and expertise in a variety of areas that keep the workshop ticking over, or assist specific functions that align with their background and experience such as driving, photography or social media.
We are formed of a group of dozens of volunteers from various backgrounds, ages, life experiences and nationalities. Our greatest strength is the trust we have in each other and encouraging the individual talents of each volunteer, that help make the workshop what it is today. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, pop down to our workshop at 21-23 High Street, Aberdeen, AB24 3EB between 4-8pm any Monday or Wednesday for a chat.
Volunteers have also used their time and work at BECYCLE to leverage themselves into new careers, university courses and support job applications.
Expect lots of social events, casual group rides, BBQ’s, bonfires, days at the beach, eating together, nights out, meeting lots of new people and getting dangerously addicted to bikes….
For more information please contact Scott Goodall, BECYCLE Workshop Trustee at email: becycleworkshop@gmail.com or telephone: 07743731990.

As a call companion, you will make regular telephone calls to a lonely and isolated older person experiencing loneliness and isolation. These calls provide a lifeline of friendship for our older people, and the regular, warm, friendly chats and companionship provide a vital link with the outside world from which they have become isolated. Over time, you and the older person you have been matched with will get to know each other well and together you will spend many hours full of fun, laughter and stories. Tasks include calling the older person you have been matched with two to four times per month at an agreed time, following the guidance in your call companion training modules to ensure that your calls are enjoyable and keeping in regular contact with Re-engage.
UNIQUE Friends Together is a Community Group based in Ayr in the south west of Scotland.
Our purpose is to promote inclusivity and integration for young people aged 16 to 30 with additional support needs.
We do this by organising and running safe and accessible social events and activities such as disco, karaoke, games, cinema, trips etc.
New people are always welcome to come along to any of our events - we love seeing new faces.
The group is run entirely by volunteers and managed by a small committee of five Trustees.
Our trustees and event volunteers include parents/guardians of young people with ASN.
We are looking for volunteers who can provide social support and help out at our various social activities and events, for example discos, cinema/movie nights and karaoke. We have regular social events every second Friday evening with occasional activities happening from time to time.
These events provide fun, friendship and social inclusion for the young people who come along. We are based in Heathfield Community Centre in Ayr and the events take place there.
Event Volunteers
We are always on the look out for great event volunteers. Without them we simply would not be able to run our events which benefit so many young people with additional support needs.
Our event volunteers encourage and support the young people to participate and develop self confidence.
If you can spare two or three hours every fortnight or even once a month to help out at our events then we would love to hear from you.
This is a great opportunity to share your social skills (and dancing skills sometimes! ;-) and make sure our activities are well supported, safe and successful!
Interested? Could this be you? To find out more please email enq.uniquefriends@gmail.com
