Community Advocate

Are you keen to make a positive difference in people’s lives? Are you interested in equality, social justice and empowerment? We are looking for people to join our highly trained and enthusiastic volunteer Community Advocate team delivering independent advocacy to mental health service users or people with learning disabilities throughout Aberdeenshire. You will make such a difference in people’s lives, supporting them to speak up for themselves and grow in confidence, helping them to understand and exercise their rights and options, and assisting them in the decision-making process relating to their care, treatment, and support. Don’t worry no previous experience is required as full training and mentoring is provided to enable you to help others to have a voice. Seeking empathic, professional volunteers to support vulnerable adults with M.E./CFS by phone/online, to understand their rights and make informed choices. Two hours a week; full advocacy training and supervision provided. Do you have two hours a week to support vulnerable adults with M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Action for M.E.’s advocacy service, supports adults with M.E./CFS to understand their rights, make informed choices, and have their views and wishes heard and respected, dealing with issues including health, social care, housing and employment. You’ll work entirely online/by phone to meet and represent clients, agree an action plan, undertake research, contact professionals. Training & Support. You will be supporting and representing people with M.E./CFS on an issue where they are finding it hard to have their views, wishes or needs heard; providing an independent and confidential service; helping people with M.E./CFS understand their rights and options; helping people with M.E./CFS make informed choices

Generalist Adviser

We are looking for people keen to develop and learn new skills to help other local people with a wide range of issues/enquiries. Intensive training will be given for this interesting and very varied role. Role Description: We have a very comprehensive training programme which involves e-learning, taught sessions (f2f, zoom and/or teams). Training can take approx 6 months to complete and we would require a commitment to volunteer for at least 6 hours per week. The range of topics covered is varied and includes debt, benefits, employment, family, legal, housing, health, consumer and immigration. Regular attendance and participation in on-going training is essential. Specialist training opportunities are available to experienced advisers. Traditionally most advice has been delivered face to face in the bureau. However, due to Covid 19 we have adjusted our service to provide support by telephone, e-mail and virtual methods. These have proved very successful and will be developed further to improve accessibility for those unable to come in to the bureau. Volunteering opportunities for other roles within the bureau will be considered and may be tailored to suit anyone keen to be involved with CAB but not as an Adviser.

Panel Practice Adviser

You’ll be part of a team that support and manages local volunteer Children’s Panel Members. You will also make sure that the views of young people are heard and acted upon within your area. You’ll be enthusiastic and committed to securing the rights of children and young people; able to lead and be part of teams; a strong communicator. You’ll also be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to and understanding of the ethos, values and principles of the children's hearings system. As an AST member, you will be appointed for an initial three year period with the possibility of extending this. Panel Practice Advisors are responsible for selecting and recommending Panel Members for appointment. They also regularly observe Panel Members within children's hearings and feedback so improvements can be made. Their goal is to support Panel Members through feedback to ensure the strongest possible decisions are being made for children and young people.

Events Volunteers

Flexible volunteering superstars needed to help us deliver events for people with learning disabilities can socialise and make friends! Dates-n-Mates is a friendship and dating agency for adults with learning disabilities. We run lots of social events and activities, helping people to meet others and to build friendships and relationships. Our work is underpinned by a human rights-based approach. We believe it is people’s right to live life free of discrimination and to develop friendships and relationships of their choosing, to love and be loved. As an Events Volunteer, your role is to help our members enjoy socialising in safe and friendly environments. Our events include going to restaurants, pubs, cinema, tenpin bowling, day trips and walks. The events are sociable, great fun and your role is very rewarding. You will initially shadow a volunteer or member of staff to help you get to know everyone and see what is involved. Events take place afternoons and evenings and usually last 2 hours. We ask our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 1 event per month. dates-n-mates offer a variety of training and support to our volunteers. We require our volunteers to join the PVG scheme but there is no cost to yourself. All expenses including travel will also be covered. WaterAid Speaker Network Volunteers

WaterAid Speakers are trained volunteers that deliver inspiring talks and workshops, to raise awareness about the importance of clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, to transform peoples’ lives for good. Our Speaker volunteers engage audiences about the important work of WaterAid, inspiring them to take action, as they speak with schools, universities, businesses, youth groups, religious places of worship, service organisations, and many more. WaterAid Speakers: •Deliver a minimum of four talks or workshops per year, either online and/or face to face. •Deliver talks or workshops on key days such as: World Water Day on 22 March, World Toilet Day on 19 November, Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May and Global Handwashing Day on 15 October. •Contact new audiences to organise and deliver talk and workshop opportunities. •Complete online Speaker Network training and adhere to volunteer guidance and best practise. •Make use of our public speaking resources (such as PowerPoint presentations) included in our Speaker e-newsletter, emails, and online resource library. •Keep up to date with our key messages, appeals, campaigns, fundraising and volunteering. •Regularly liaise with the Speaker Network team about talks and workshops. •Provide feedback on talks or workshops by completing the online evaluations. •Provide support to new Speakers around their public speaking development. •Demonstrate the WaterAid values including being considerate when representing WaterAid and always leaving others with a positive view of our organisation and the work that we do.
