Refugee Integration Volunteer

Description

Access to information, advice and advocacy is especially important when people in need of protection are first granted refugee status or reach Scotland from abroad. Our integration team comprises of dedicated staff and volunteers and plays a vital role at the beginning of that complex integration journey. We offer a holistic and personalised service to refugees across Scotland while promoting their independence and informed choice. Our goal is for people to realise their own potential and achieve positive outcomes. The service is dynamic and adapts to the changing needs of people we work with.

As a volunteer with the team you will play a key role in ensuring that people have access to accurate information and understand their options. You will help people to identify their goals and support them in achieving potential. You will assist advisors to prevent destitution and homelessness. You will help us to ensure that people not only feel safe in their homes and local communities but are also linked with local services including education and training providers.

Duties will be dictated by needs of people granted refugee status and in line with their interests. It is important to recognise that You will get full guidance on a range of issues people may need your assistance with and how to act to address them.

Tasks will vary, but will include:
Providing basic advice on issues such as access to housing and welfare rights.
Helping people with a range of applications and referrals
Attending to people granted refugee status who present with emergencies
Administrative and research tasks associated with the role

1:1 Online Tutor - Volunteer Tutors Organisation

VTO provides free one to one tuition to children and young people (aged 8-18) to help tackle the attainment gap in Scotland. We work with young people from diverse backgrounds including those from low income families, care experience, EAL, or those faced with perceived barriers to learning. Our volunteers are responsible for developing a person-centred tutoring experience online. A key part of this role is relationship building, mentoring, instilling confidence, and empowering young people through education. Volunteers from a range of diverse backgrounds and experiences are welcome. What will I be doing? Working one to one with a young person who requires tutoring support online. Relationship building and mentoring Instilling a growth mind set towards learning Monitoring and recording progress of learning and keeping in contact with your assigned Learning Communities Coordinator. Tutoring in English, Maths and potentially other subjects, dependant on experience. Sourcing and creating engaging ways to support pupils’ skills and learning.

Minutes Secretary

ClubSport Aberdeen is a vibrant body directed by the clubs, for the clubs. As an independent charity, we provide a unified voice for sport clubs in Aberdeen at the top level across the city through our relationship with the Active Aberdeen Partnership. Our purpose is not only to provide the AAP with club input and a club perspective on arising matters, but also to ensure that Aberdeen has safe, sustainable and supported clubs. It does so by using expertise from within the club network as well as from partners in the wider network. This gives Aberdeen’s clubs the ability to develop and grow their membership, workforce and structure to provide their members with the best possible experience of the sport. Membership is open to all clubs across Aberdeen, and generally around 70-80 clubs register with us on an annual basis. The board of Club Sport Aberdeen is made up of a board of volunteer trustees who meet regularly to discuss programmes and initiatives that will benefit sports clubs across the city, which includes projects such as the North East Youth Panel and Active Schools Voucher projects. However, we would be keen to support clubs to deliver projects that also impact on mental health, increasing confidence and breaking down barriers to access sport and physical activity. The board are currently looking to recruit a minutes secretary to help with board admin. Main responsibilities would include: • Collect Agenda items and share prior to meetings • Taking accurate notes as a record of discussion and decisions • Write up notes with responsibilities and actions • Distribute minutes to all committee members Board meetings take place on a bi-monthly basis, with other meetings scheduled as required. Time commitment would generally be 2-3 hours per month, depending on the meeting cycle and membership processing. A fantastic opportunity to help and make a real difference for club and grassroots community sport in Aberdeen. All help is greatly appreciated.
