We at Sunnybrae are a Very Sheltered Housing complex, set up to enable people to live independently in a community setting with the added bonus of high-quality care and access to meals and activities provided at the Core building. We are looking for volunteers to support our friendly staff team with organising and leading activities for our residents. Activities could include organising or providing: * Live music or singing; * Arts and crafts sessions; * Physical exercise such as chair yoga, boccia, any active games; * Gardening and sprucing up our little cul-de-sac; * Pampering sessions, hair and nails and make-up; * Technology and learning, maybe you could show our residents a games console or VR set?; * Fundraising ideas for out comfort fund; … or just taking a resident for a wander and a blether. We will be delighted to have your ideas and for you to share your hobbies with us. These can be group activities or one-to-one activities with residents, tailored to both your interests and the resident’s. This role is very flexible and does not require fixed days – every hour spent with our residents enriches their lives and will be very much appreciated. What could a volunteer gain from the experience: Helping our residents lead a fulfilled life - reviving old skills or even learning new ones is a wonderful thing for them and the satisfaction you will gain from this can make an immense positive difference to your life as well. Maybe you are interested in a job in care in the future? This would be a great opportunity to gain an understanding of the sector and can support a future application. Maybe you could even learn an old skill from one of our residents!

The Food Train operates throughout Scotland, supporting older people in local communities to remain living in their own home, as independently as possible. If you like chatting, meeting people and getting out and about this could be the role for you! Our volunteer befrienders take part in home visits, one on one excursions and sometimes group trips. We have a large number of older people in Falkirk experiencing loneliness and isolation who would love the companionship of another person who can visit on a regular basis. The role involves: - Visiting an older person in their own home to spend time chatting, listening and discussing various topics; playing a game; doing a puzzle; cooking... Whatever interests you both! We will always try to match you with someone we think you would be compatible with. - There's always the option to go out on walks or outings. - Visits will be arranged in advance and may be at a regular time every day/week/fortnight. - We ask that you update staff after visits and complete monitoring and reviewing requirements. - Informing staff of any concerns, accidents, incidents or complaints. - There's always the option to attend volunteer meetings, training and social events throughout the year.

Top Toes provides a personal foot care service for clients who are unable to provide their own personal foot care. This is an essential service for the community. Good foot care can reduce the risk of falls among vulnerable older people, improves mobility and improves quality of life. This project also supports the work of NHS podiatry services, allowing them to focus on quality care for those who really need it. Footcare tasks include: · Set up and maintain sterile treatment room with appropriate equipment · Check and clean plinth · Complete health and well-being checklist with each client · Remove client’s footwear (where requested by client) · Clean toenails with sterile antiseptic wipes · Clean and check the client’s set of clippers for cleanliness and suitability for use (clients will be given their own set of clippers at their first appointment and will bring with them to each subsequent appointment) · Cut toenails · Give foot care and emollient advice If you think that you can contribute to this important service, or would like to know more, then please do get in touch: eleanor.paterson2@nhs.scot. Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland are looking for someone passionate about sport who enjoys talking with older adults and will bring their enthusiasm into the club session. The Session Supporter works alongside the Session Facilitator to enable the smooth running of the club session and will help to set up the venue for the club as well as welcoming members as they arrive. The clubs support older people who may have a physical disability and/or memory problems. Some of the members are isolated; they just enjoy popping in for a chat and being able to reminisce about their favourite sports.
