Description

What does an Adventure/Holiday Supporter do?
Alongside other volunteers and a member of the Dementia Adventure staff team you will assist and support people living with dementia, and their carer, to have the best possible holiday experience.

Typical tasks will involve:

-Supporting the Adventure (Holiday) Leader and other volunteers with all activities planned in the itinerary such as trips, walks and tours.
-Supporting holiday guests with as little or as much assistance as they require with tasks such as unpacking/packing, and support during activities (there is no expectation to provide personal care).
-Offering physical support such as pushing a wheelchair.
-Assisting the Holiday Leader in encouraging the guests to participate in the holiday as much as possible,
-Support with mealtimes. This may include some basic cooking, heating of pre-prepared meals, or preparing packed lunches.
-Spending time with the holiday guests living with dementia to go through a photo album, listen to some music, read a section of a book, engage with some arts & crafts, play a game etc. This could offer their carer a short break.

Organisation aims and objectives

Dementia Adventure is an award-winning charity supporting people with dementia to get outdoors and experience the benefits of nature. We think differently about dementia, focusing on the individual, not the condition, and looking at what people can do rather than what they can’t. We have proven that with the right support, anything is possible. Dementia Adventure has been offering fully supported dementia holidays for well over a decade to people living with dementia and their carers. We understand the complex and individual needs of people living with dementia, as well as how carers can benefit from having the chance to relax and enjoy time with their loved one while someone else takes care of all the planning and background tasks. Whether looking for an alternative to respite in which everyone gets a rest, or an opportunity to have an adventure together, we will support people to have the break they deserve.
