About the Role
Volunteers are valued members of the Adult Learning team and are vital to supporting the growth of adult literacies in North Lanarkshire. From working with learners one to one or help organising community events, the volunteering role is designed to balance between the needs of the learners and the volunteers’ personal development. We currently have many volunteers who take on a variety of roles for us. Our volunteer roles match your skills, interests and personal development goals.
What’s involved?
The volunteers in adult literacies class/group would mainly be help learners develop essential life or work skills, e.g. the volunteers can be working with learners on a one-to-one basis within a class setting. Volunteers can also be joining the learners’ forum to have their say in shaping their own learning.
What will you get out of it?
The Adult Learning team provide high quality training and ongoing support to all our volunteers. We celebrate volunteers’ achievement and hard work during volunteers’ week every year. Most importantly, it is a good way to help others with their learning and integration in society.
Qualities and skills required for the role:
No formal qualification required. We welcome individuals who have good interpersonal skills, willingness to help others and regular commitment to the volunteering role.
What’s the commitment?
Flexible depending on individual’s availability. It would be 2 hours a week or 10 hours a week. We appreciate any time you can commit.

North Lanarkshire Council is the local authority for providing governance and public services for the people of North Lanarkshire.

Restrictions

Travel details: Mainly in adult literacies classes in community centres in the 6 main towns across North Lanarkshire. Days and times are flexible depending on the volunteers’ availability.

Training details: 1 full day training prior to placement (6 hours) Placement (2 to 4 hours) 1 follow up training session (4 hours)
