Being a Scout Team Member is so rewarding. Pick up practical and leadership skills but the real joy likes in helping young people to grow and develop and make new friends (and memories). Main Tasks Have fun! Our adult volunteers get just as much out of Scouting as our young people do. As well as helping young people to the adventure of Scouting, you’ll also have fun, make friends, develop new skills and have unforgettable experiences. Also.... Delivery of a Balanced Programme: • Delivery of a safe, exciting and stimulating Balanced Programme for the Section taking into account the needs, interests and abilities of the young people. • Ensure the safe delivery of the programme in accordance with the Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. • Ensure that every young person in the Section has the opportunity to attend at least one nights away experience each year. • Actively support and promote the achievement of badges and awards in particular the Chief Scouts’ Award. • Actively work with other adults in the Group to support and promote Group or multi-section activities and events. • Ensure regular opportunities are provided for young people to express their views on the programme and running on the Section, and that those views are taken into account (for example using Log Chews, Pack, Troop, Sixer or Patrol Leader forums, or any other method). • Actively co-operate with other section leaders to promote the Moving On from Section to Section. Operation of the Section: • Work with the Group Lead Volunteer, the Group Executive Committee and others to support recruiting and inducting appropriate Assistant Leaders and Section Assistants. • Agree responsibilities with Assistant Section Leaders, Section Assistants and parent helpers taking into account the development of the individual’s leadership potential. • Ensure accurate records are kept of the young people in the Section in accordance with the Data Protection Act and pass these records to the Section Leader when the young person reaches the age to move up to the next Section. • Regularly review the operation of the Section. • Make and maintain good relationships with parents/carers of the young people. This may include running a parent rota and/or inviting parents to support camps or other residential experiences.

Get involved helping children aged 8-10.5 have fun, make friends, get outdoors and learn new things at Galashiels Cub Scout Pack. No experience needed, training given and help as often or as little as you like! We are looking for a new volunteer to support the leading of our Cub Pack. Cubs are boys and girls aged 8-10.5 years. Their leaders run a weekly meeting at Hayward Scout Hall, Galashiels on a Wednesday night, 6-7.30pm. Activities focus on having fun, being active and making friends. As you'd expect they play lots of games and learning things in a fun way (and so do the Cubs!). You would volunteer under the leadership and support of the Cub Scout Leader.

Get involved helping children aged 6-8 have fun, make friends and learn new things at Galashiels Beaver Scout Colony. No experience needed, training given and help as often or as little as you like! We are looking for a new volunteer to support the leading of our Beaver Colony. Beavers are boys and girls aged 6 to 8 years and they are the youngest section of the Scouts. Their leaders run a weekly meeting at Hayward Scout Hall, Galashiels on a Wednesday night, 6-7pm. Activities focus on having fun and making friends. As you'd expect they play lots of games and make things (and so do the Beavers!). You would volunteer under the leadership and support of the Beaver Scout Leader.

Assisting your local fundraising group in organising, promoting, and taking part in a variety of activities to raise money for Guide Dogs. It costs £58,000 to support one single guide dog throughout its life, so without our amazing Fundraisers raising money for us, we would not be able to provide our life changing services! Did you know that we do not just provide life-changing guide dogs, we also provide advice, skills, emotional and practical support for children, adults and their families living with sight loss to help them live actively, independently, and well? Key activities: • Helping on stalls at local events. • Taking Collection Boxes to local businesses. • Manning collections at various venues. • Attending local events organised by the team and keeping track of what we sell on our stalls (including the cuddly toys!) • Counting donations. • Supporting a group of like-minded people planning events and raising money. What could a volunteer gain from the experience? • The satisfaction in knowing you are supporting people with sight loss to live actively, independently, and well. • An opportunity to build experience in communication and people skills. • An opportunity to interact with others, including people with Guide Dogs and members of the public.
