Volunteer Minibus Driver

Description

The role involves driving one of our Mini-buses to collect clients from their homes in the Greater Glasgow area and bringing them to our site at Milton of Campsie. This is generally Monday to Friday, between 8.30-10.30am. There are also volunteer driver opportunities taking our clients home between 2.30-4.30pm.
Silver Birch is a non profit charity and social enterprise who provide work focused training opportunities to adults with learning disabilities mainly through the provision of Social & Therapeutic Horticulture (STH). We also run a small social enterprise garden centre where all takings are reinvested back into our organisation

Organisation aims and objectives

Silver Birch (Scotland) Ltd is a registered Scottish charity founded in 1996. The fundamental purpose of Silver Birch is to provide work experience and skills development to people with learning disabilities, through social and therapeutic horticulture. Further to this aim, we produce and sell a variety of gardening products including mushroom compost, multi-purpose compost, bark, shrubs and plants. We operate from an 11 acre site, owned by the charity, located in Milton of Campsie, East Dunbartonshire. Over the years we have continued to grow, and with the recent completion of a large £330k expansion of the business, we now plan to expand the business further and move forward to the next chapter in our organisational growth.

Experience required: It is essential that the volunteer has a D1 category on their driving license

Do you agree that every person who has a learning disability should have the choice and control to live the life they choose? Aberdeen ENABLE Branch are looking for enthusiastic, committed volunteers to help drive their minibus allowing people with a Learning Disability to attend social events. Aberdeen Branch has been running social activities in the city for nearly 60 years and there are currently around fifty members of the 'Pop Club' which meets fortnightly. The volunteer driver must meet specifications laid out by the DVLA for driving a minibus in the UK. The specific tasks for the role are to follow a run sheet of pickups of ENABLE members in the Aberdeen area, assist escorts in ensuring that people board the bus safely, drive to social activity location, ensure that people disembark safely, repeat process on journey back home. In addition volunteers are expected to fuel minibus (paid for by the Branch) and fill in maintenance check list. Volunteers should also be prepared to store the minibus in a safe location. Throughout the volunteering opportunity you will gain new skills and experience working with people who have a Learning Disabilities, their families and carers. You will also gain practical experience of driving a minibus for a specific group of people. Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with Aberdeen Branch policy. Volunteer Minibus Driver

As a Volunteer Minibus Driver for Blantyre Volunteer Group, you will help a wide range of community groups – including those involving children, youth, older people, and people with disabilities to access social and recreational activities. The skills and references required, and the training provided is to ensure the care and safety of the people you will be driving. Volunteers will be put through their MIDAS if required. Volunteers must be reliable, friendly and caring, and have a good sense of humour.

Are interested in becoming a volunteer driver? Do you enjoy driving and helping people? If you have your own vehicle and able to offer regular commitment, we have opportunities available in Angus and Dundee. We are looking for volunteer drivers to help us transport: - adults to day care - children to school - people to their GP or hospital appointment - people with learning disabilities to college. We pay your mileage expenses and provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Voluntary Services Driver

Would you be willing to help people access essential services and social activities in Angus? Could you be a volunteer driver? We are looking for drivers who can help us provide a volunteer driver service to assist service users to access school, appointments, meetings and access community activities as requested by Voluntary Services. The main tasks involve: • Safely transporting service users including young people, older people and people with disabilities • Assisting people in and out of the car • Helping people to their front door • Assisting with bags • Maintaining appropriate boundaries in relationships • Maintaining confidentiality • Taking responsibility for ensuring car seats are appropriate for car and child being transported. You will need to be: • A confident driver • Willing to use your own vehicle and have business insurance cover • Enjoy meeting people • Show empathy, patience and reliability • Availability 2-3 hours daily • Be comfortable working on own initiative but know when to seek support We are looking for volunteers who can offer 2-3 hours per week with a minimum period of 6 months commitment. Induction training is mandatory and includes confidentiality, personal safety, protecting people, lone working, communication skills and values. Other training may be offered, such as manual handling, dealing with difficult behaviour, working with people with disabilities. A PVG will be required.
