Established in 1856 the Sea Cadets were created by communities wanting to give young people instruction on a naval theme. Traditionally old seafarers provided training while local businessmen funded the unit building. Today, 14,000 young people based in 400 units in towns, cities and ports across the UK are challenging themselves and developing new skills, like sailing, boating and rock climbing - supported by 9,000 volunteers. At Ayr, we love helping young people launch well in today’s world. Watching cadets grow into better versions of themselves is what makes volunteering for this charity so special. The Ayr Ark has 3 main aims: Engage, Equip and Empower young people in South Ayrshire specifically the Ayr and Prestwick areas. We have Multiple youth clubs on during the week and our main one being a Friday night. Alongside this we are in 5 schools across Ayr and Prestwick, mentoring young people to make positive decisions. The Ayr Ark is a safe and supportive environment for young people where they can build life skills and confidence. CURRENT OPPORTUNITES At the Ark we have multiple clubs and activities, and we are looking for volunteers for all areas: Craft club (October- April) - Tuesday 4pm-5pm Empower Autism- Wednesday 4pm-5pm Empower Autism- Thursday 4pm-5pm Friday night drop in- Friday 6pm-9pm We are looking for vibrant individuals who have a passion for working with young people from diverse backgrounds. To get alongside them, chat to them and support them. The Ark is a safe place for young people and our volunteers must be friendly and approachable to our young people. All volunteers will be expected to comply with our volunteer policy and handbook. PVGs will be given to volunteers over 16. Other opportunities: The Ark is very busy behind the scenes. If working face to face with young people isn’t really your thing, we are still looking for lots of other volunteers with skillsets like fundraising, design, social media, finance. Aberdeen Arts Centre is an independent arts venue and registered charity in the heart of Aberdeen, Scotland — delivering a varied programme of theatre, dance, music, spoken word, comedy, film and creative learning events. We are currently looking for volunteers. You can combine all three of the roles below or partake in just one area that interests you. Opportunities to Volunteer include: • Front of House • Café • Bar Front of House volunteers are responsible for greeting the audience, showing them to their seats and ensuring their well-being throughout the evening. Café and Bar volunteers serve customers drinks and snacks before the show and in the interval. The bar may also remain open after the show for customers to stay and relax. Full training will be provided for each position and you will be supported by our experienced team of current volunteers and staff throughout your time with us. We are looking for volunteers who can provide a strong foundation to help strengthen their communities by helping Care Experienced children and young people engage in activities to build their skills and confidence and to be included, understood, respected, and valued in their communities. The Group Work Volunteer role will work alongside our innovative and energetic Edinburgh project team, supporting to raise awareness of Care Experience and supporting activities for young people, providing supportive adults to ensure all children and young people can thrive, bringing communities together. This role will involve interacting with young people aged 5-17 through supporting and leading on a variety of activities e.g. arts/crafts/sports/general youth work at our fortnightly/monthly sessions as well as at our National events that happen throughout the year. This role will help build community strengths for Care Experienced people and provide social networks to help build resilience and positive outcomes for children and young people. Who Cares?
