Description

Govanhill Baths Community Trust (GBCT) is recruiting Board Members to join a dynamic Board to take forward the reopening of the Baths as a Wellbeing Centre. We’re looking for committed individuals who are keen to help the Trust re-open the Baths, and to contribute to the social, cultural and physical regeneration of Govanhill as a community in the Southside of Glasgow. This recruitment drive is directed specifically towards candidates from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds (BAME+); we aim to ensure that we have a wider representation on the Board to reflect the diversity of Govanhill.

What does the role involve?

The Board currently meets on a monthly basis, on the first Tuesday, at 6:30pm. The meetings typically run for approximately two hours. We expect regular attendance at meetings, as well as reading reports, draft policies and proposals in advance of meetings.

We encourage applications from all who believe they can contribute effectively regardless of age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, or belief. We welcome applications from the many community groups and individuals within the Govanhill area who have helped to shape Govanhill Baths Community Trust activities up to now. If you have any requirements for support, these can be discussed further during the interview process.

If you're interested, please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email or phone call. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on info@volunteerglasgow.org.

Organisation aims and objectives

Govanhill Baths Community Trust grew out of a long and hard-fought all volunteer community campaign. Today an invaluable and highly significant amount of the work of the Trust is performed and supported by volunteers. It is our goal to celebrate, provide support, training and encouragement to our volunteers. The purpose of the Govanhill Baths Community Trust is to ensure that Govanhill Baths is re-opened as a publicly funded well-being centre. The centre would be used for the improvement in health and well-being of all the residents in Govanhill and the surrounding area. Today the Baths are a thriving centre taking in a theatre company (Govanhill Theatre Group) and a wide and continually growing range of groups and classes. These all contribute to the support and development of the community and the long term regeneration of the Baths themselves.
