Many of our library customers come to us for advice and practical support to access online resources, as they may not have access to a computer or the internet at home. We need volunteers who can explain and practically demonstrate how to complete basic IT tasks,assisting customers to improve their skills and access the information and support they require online. As part of the Library and Information service of Leisure and Culture Dundee, your role will be to support library customers to improve their IT skills through the provision of Basic IT support and training, which could include; Support with setting up and using email Accessing online job search and completing employment applications Scanning and uploading documents Accessing online training courses Completing online applications e.g. for housing or benefits Travel planning Using microsoft office packages Downloading and printing documents Accessing library service e-resources

As an IT Support volunteer you will provide a timely, effective, free and impartial advice and assistance on a one-off or short-term basis, to disabled or older people to resolve their computer related issues in their home and/or remotely.

What will I be doing? Upon a referral being made via AbilityNet: * Contacting clients to arrange date/time to support them * Carrying out IT support to clients * Feeding back on progress via our online system * Opportunities to support local Co-ordinator with promoting volunteer service in local area eg, leaflet dropping or displaying posters in local area

SSCC Falkirk is seeking an additional Volunteer IT Tutor to help support our over-50 learners with computing devices and to extend their knowledge of what can be achieved with the available technology. Skills and Attitudes Volunteer tutors should have practical experience in one or more of: Using laptops, iPad / Android tablets and smartphones; Windows operating systems and applications; Mobile device applications; Using email and browsers; Social media; Security / keeping safe online; Digital photography. Volunteers should have good communication skills and be able to demonstrate patience and empathy with learner members, and commitment to their role as a volunteer tutor. Due to the nature of our service and the importance of consistency for our older learners volunteers must be able to commit to regular attendance at the Club, and to notify others at the Club in advance if they will be unable to attend, for example for illness, holidays or other commitments. Duties The duties of club volunteer tutors are: • Help to set up and take down furniture / equipment at the meeting venue • Provide advice and support to learner members with technical problems and questions. • Suggest to learner members other uses of their computers that may help them; give guidance to help members to use this correctly if required. *Infectious Disease Policy* • Hand hygiene measures should be observed using sanitizing gels provided or members’ own; • Tables and other touch point and surface areas shall be cleaned prior to and after use; • Social distancing measures are not mandated but members may choose to do so if they wish, with the Club Leader ensuring the room is not overcrowded; • The room should be well ventilated. SSCC will endeavour to assure the safety of members, however attendance is at member’s own risk.
