Then we would love you to join our team as a Macmillan Community Buddy and help Macmillan support people living with cancer. *Why we want you: Bring your listening and communication skills to support people living with cancer to feel less isolated and lonely and to help with practical tasks that they are temporarily having trouble with. By joining us you’ll be doing something amazing for people, so they can continue to feel connected to the world outside and helping them find their best way through. Together, we can be right there for people with cancer. *What you will be doing • Providing face-to-face support in the community or in people’s homes to alleviate loneliness and help with simple practical tasks • Adopting a non-judgemental and supportive approach to understand the needs and concerns of people living with cancer • Supporting 1-3 people living with cancer every week for up to 12 visits • Completing post call ‘records of activity’ reports and using all required systems • Joining group catch up calls every 4-6 weeks to get key updates and/or share good practice • Volunteering within agreed hours and following all best practice guidelines • Signposting to additional support if required and raising any further concerns with the Macmillan team *The skills you need • Good listener and clear communicator • Patient, flexible and reliable • Ability to respect others’ differences and choices • Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding while maintaining boundaries • Ability to recognise when to ask for support • Ability to work independently with guidance and support • Understand the need to maintain confidentiality • Ability and willingness to travel in your local area • Good IT skills in order to access required systems and resources • Ability to commit to 4 hours of online training *What's in it for you • Meet new people as part of a friendly team that makes a difference • Use and develop your communication and people skills • Have a rewarding experience making a difference to people living with cancer who are especially isolated • Receive an induction, relevant training, the support you need to carry out your role, and agreed out-of-pocket expenses (reimbursed within our guidelines) By sharing your skills and time, you’ll have the opportunity to utilise and develop your skills and will make a difference to people’s lives. We at Sunnybrae are a Very Sheltered Housing complex, set up to enable people to live independently in a community setting with the added bonus of high-quality care and access to meals and activities provided at the Core building. We are looking for volunteers to support our friendly staff team with organising and leading activities for our residents. Activities could include organising or providing: * Live music or singing; * Arts and crafts sessions; * Physical exercise such as chair yoga, boccia, any active games; * Gardening and sprucing up our little cul-de-sac; * Pampering sessions, hair and nails and make-up; * Technology and learning, maybe you could show our residents a games console or VR set?; * Fundraising ideas for out comfort fund; … or just taking a resident for a wander and a blether. We will be delighted to have your ideas and for you to share your hobbies with us. These can be group activities or one-to-one activities with residents, tailored to both your interests and the resident’s. This role is very flexible and does not require fixed days – every hour spent with our residents enriches their lives and will be very much appreciated. What could a volunteer gain from the experience: Helping our residents lead a fulfilled life - reviving old skills or even learning new ones is a wonderful thing for them and the satisfaction you will gain from this can make an immense positive difference to your life as well. Essential Corporate Induction and training will be provided on learnPro for all volunteers to ensure they are prepared for the role eg Hand Hygiene and Fire Awareness Training. The Care Experience volunteer will require a high level of concentration when carrying out interviews. The ability to track and record feedback/activity accurately and consistently. The ability to summarise key issues and actions arising from the walkrounds. The need for active listening skills and good communication skills and willingness to work with staff in clinical settings. Sensitive enquiry to find out what works well and what does not in wards whilst identifying points that can be improved both in terms of quality and safety. This role involves visiting wards and speaking to patients and visitors to carry out interviews as directed by the Head of Department. Maintain records of interviews and audits in line with guidelines. Return reports to appropriate departments. Volunteers must show a willingness to undertake training and comply with NHS Golden Jubilee policies and procedures.

MISS (Miscarriage Information Support Service) is a registered charity. We are a miscarriage support service covering all of Scotland for anyone who has experienced baby loss. MISS offers a confidential space for anyone in Scotland to receive support, information and advice as well as understand they are not alone after going through miscarriage. There are a great number of ways you can help support the work of MISS as a volunteer.
