We’re looking for friendly, sociable people to bring HMS Unicorn’s history to life for our visitors. We’re the oldest ship in Scotland so there’s lots of stories to tell about our past! You will be trained to give tours of HMS Unicorn to our visitors and answer their questions. You’ll develop an understanding of and enthusiasm for our historic ship combined with excellent customer service and communication skills. Volunteers will be given relevant training and support by the Volunteering, Engagement and Learning Officer. Giving tours will involve being able to move between decks using the ladderways (only ways of access) around the ship. The key tasks will include: • Learning about the history of HMS Unicorn. • Working with members of the public – giving tours and answering questions in a helpful and friendly way. • Supporting the Museum staff in acting as the main point of welcome for all visitors to HMS Unicorn. Mortuary Chapel Western Cemetery Arbroath DD11 4HA • The Mortuary Chapel was designed by Patrick Allan-Fraser as a memorial to his late wife Elizabeth and her deceased parents John Fraser and Elizabeth Parrot Fraser. Work began in 1875 based on an outline plan by Allan-Fraser to which he added details as building progressed. • Everyone who visits quickly realises that this is a remarkable building, possibly the most unusual and most instantly appealing of the many fine buildings within Arbroath. However, it is also very important on a national scale. It could claim to be one of the best buildings of its date in Scotland. • The building is also notable for its eclectic mix of styles, including reference to Scottish, English and possibly other precedents from East European Gothic. Every part of the building is important because every part received great care in design. • The Mortuary Chapel is located in the Western Cemetery. Tours will be available at 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm, led by Hospitalfield Volunteer Tour Guides. Booking is not required for this venue, however access will be by tour only. • The chapel has one step on entering and the upper levels are up a number of stairs. Dogs are not allowed inside the mortuary chapel (unless an assistance/guide dog).

VTO provides free one to one tuition to children and young people (aged 8-18) to help tackle the attainment gap in Scotland. We work with young people from diverse backgrounds including those from low income families, care experience, EAL, or those faced with perceived barriers to learning. Our volunteers are responsible for developing a person-centred tutoring experience online. A key part of this role is relationship building, mentoring, instilling confidence, and empowering young people through education. Volunteers from a range of diverse backgrounds and experiences are welcome. What will I be doing? Working one to one with a young person who requires tutoring support online. Relationship building and mentoring Instilling a growth mind set towards learning Monitoring and recording progress of learning and keeping in contact with your assigned Learning Communities Coordinator. Tutoring in English, Maths and potentially other subjects, dependant on experience. Sourcing and creating engaging ways to support pupils’ skills and learning.
