Volunteer Driver

Description

To drive across various locations within the Scottish Borders, to collect/drop off vulnerable and isolated service users living with a neurological condition, who would otherwise not be able to attend our activities.

• To ensure those most isolated/vulnerable, can attend our activities and groups, through supporting
our collection service.
• Driving to various pick up locations within the Scottish Borders, using your own vehicle, or our
leased car.
• Ensuring our service users arrive at activities, and back home safely.
• Help those who are most disadvantaged from missing out.

Time commitment - an average of 2-3 hours per week.

Organisation aims and objectives

To assist in the rehabilitation of those suffering from Brain Injuries across the length and breadth of the Scottish Borders. We aim to inform, advice and support to enable Service Users to rebuild their lives, be independent and integrate back into society. Most of our work is carried out on a 1-1 basis but we also offer support groups across the Scottish Borders.

Restrictions

• All volunteers will be expected to complete a Scottish Disclosure Check/PVG
Experience required: • Reliable • Sociable and approachable • Drive carefully and safely • Able to build positive relationships with service users and the rest of the team. • You must have a full driving license, and do not have any points on your license.
Travel details: Galashiels Office and/or other locations across the Scottish Borders

To drive HcL vehicles as agreed with opportunities available across our different services including our Dial- A -Bus, Dial- A -Ride and our group transport. We provide supported door-through-door transport for people with mobility challenges – either from age, disability, health issues or additional support needs. Our drivers not only collect passengers from their front door but help passengers from inside their home and onto the bus. This can include helping them put their coat on, turning the key to lock their home and assisting them from their home to the vehicle and safely into a seat and fastening their seatbelt.

Volunteer Driver

We need local volunteer drivers for our vehicles, to help the elderly and disabled get out and about. It might be a shopping trip, visit to family and friends, outings, transport to clubs/meetings, hospital visits and any other long or short journeys as required. We give all our drivers MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training which is recognised throughout the UK as the standard course for volunteer drivers involved in community transport. Training includes loading and strapping in of wheelchairs. Travel expenses are paid at 40p per mile.

Volunteer Minibus Driver

The role involves driving one of our Mini-buses to collect clients from their homes in the Greater Glasgow area and bringing them to our site at Milton of Campsie. This is generally Monday to Friday, between 8.30-10.30am. There are also volunteer driver opportunities taking our clients home between 2.30-4.30pm. Silver Birch is a non profit charity and social enterprise who provide work focused training opportunities to adults with learning disabilities mainly through the provision of Social & Therapeutic Horticulture (STH). We also run a small social enterprise garden centre where all takings are reinvested back into our organisation

Volunteer Driver - Aberdeen

Would you like to help children with disabilities by assisting with travel to and from our services in Aberdeen? Aberlour Options Aberdeen is a short breaks service, providing residential, community-based short breaks and care at home for children and young people with disabilities. We offer a safe, homely environment for a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. Volunteer Drivers play an important role in helping transport children to and from our service on our minibus, helping them to feel comfortable and secure. Our services are in the Bucksburn and Garthdee areas of Aberdeen, with journeys frequently across the Aberdeen City area. Volunteer Drivers play an important role in helping children feel safe, secure and relaxed during these journeys. Volunteer Drivers put children at ease, who may otherwise be feeling anxious by interacting with children and being a friendly face to accompany them to and from the service. These interactions help to develop communication skills, building confidence and self-esteem. Volunteer Drivers can gain a real sense of satisfaction from helping children with disabilities travel to and from the Options Aberdeen service, knowing they are making a positive impact and helping to make their time at Option Aberdeen enjoyable.
