MCR Pathways works with its inspiring mentor community and partners to help young people realise their skills and progress towards positive destinations. Our vision is for all young people to experience equality of education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances, which we achieve through our school-based mentoring programme. Mentors meet with their young person for one hour each week in school, providing a consistent opportunity for the young person to focus on their future, discuss any concerns or simply share thoughts and experiences. A mentor serves as an added source of support -someone there to listen, encourage and help young people get the best out of school. This includes increasing their confidence, boosting qualifications, gaining meaningful experiences, and increasing their career options after school. We believe that every young person deserves a trusted adult for guidance and support. By becoming a volunteer mentor, you have the power to make a difference in the lives of young people. Together we can build a strong community of mentors, moving one step closer to our goal of ensuring that all young people have the support and encouragement they need to reach their full potential.

Organisation aims and objectives

To improve the life chances of care-experienced and other young people who require some support. We're aiming to reach more volunteer mentors in the area as the programme currently runs in 9 schools across the city. For just 1 hour a week and showing that they care, mentors can have a profound benefit to a young person's future.

Experience required: No previous experience required.
Travel details: Within secondary schools in the Edinburgh Local Authority. The Mentors provide their preferred school location.

Mentor

TCA Youth Mentoring Service provides a mentoring support to vulnerable young people living within the boundaries of Dundee City. The target group are those young people who are affected by someone else's (parents, siblings, grandparents etc) substance use. The service recruits, trains, supports and supervises volunteer mentors who are then matched with individual young people. Mentoring matches are closely monitored and reviewed to ensure they remain purposeful. You must be able to commit 2-4 hours per week for at least 1 year. Volunteers will be supported by the Mentoring Coordinator and full training will be provided. Having your own transport would be beneficial but is not necessary.

MCR Pathways is a multi-award-winning mentoring programme helping Scotland’s care-experienced and vulnerable young people achieve the same educational outcomes, career opportunities and life chances as all other young people. At the core of the MCR Programme are 1 hour weekly in-school meetings between a young person and mentor, who listens and provides encouragement. MCR Mentors come from all walks of life and commit to supporting a young person in school for a minimum of a year, ideally two. They are trained and supported by MCR throughout the mentoring relationship. External research shows that MCR mentoring has made a significant and lasting impact on young people’s confidence and self-esteem, in addition to school staying-on rates, attainment and progression to positive destinations - college, university, and employment. Volunteer Mentor

We all need that person who believes in us! Ysort-It is a Youth Organisation that covers all of West Dunbartonshire. Volunteer Mentors are required for its Intandem Programme. Intandem is Scotland’s National Mentoring Programme and is funded by Inspiring Scotland and the Robertson’s Trust. Intandem supports care experienced children and young people aged between 8 and 14 at point of referral. Namely, Intandem supports children that live under a Compulsory Supervision Order (CS0) or are living in Kinship Care. For children and young people to thrive and have a bright future, they need one constant adult. Someone who truly inspires and believes in them. Without the support of a Volunteer Mentor, tragically some of the children in our programme would not have a supportive adult like this in their lives. You can truly make a life changing difference! And the reason we know this, is because our young people tell us. You - · Volunteer Mentors must be aged 18 and over. We have mentors from all ages! Every age group has something to offer. · You must be able to commit to spending one hour a week with the person the support. · You must care about young people and want them to have positive outcomes. · Believe like us there should be no barriers to what young people in Scotland can achieve. What we can provide you with - · Comprehensive training and support provided by our dedicated Mentor Support Worker. · Travel expenses. · An activity budget to do activities such as taking a young person to the cinema. · Fantastic facilities at our Base where you can chose to meet your young person. For example you can bake or play Playstation together. · Fantastic work experience, particularly for anyone seeking a career in Health and Social Care or Education.

Volunteer Mentor

At MCR, we know that there is amazing potential and talent in all young people, regardless of their home life and circumstances. But for many, that potential has yet to be discovered. Life experience has knocked the confidence out of some, firmly locking away those seeds of aspiration and hope. It is our aim to uncover, nurture, and develop the skills and capabilities of our most disadvantaged young people. We bridge talent with opportunity through relationship focused mentoring. We're looking for mentors to #BeTheBridge for the young people of Anderson High School. All that's required is one hour per week and a desire to help a young person. Building a positive relationship is based on non-judgemental listening and encouragement. It's about turning up consistently, for no other reason than you care. When one person mentors, two lives are changed. Our mentors help realise the full potential of their young person and empower them with the confidence and belief to make it happen. Mentoring is creating a wave of positive change, impacting our schools, community and country.
