Description

Our building sub-committee oversees maintenance and building projects at the centre. We need a volunteer to help us make the right decisions to take care of our beautiful listed building so that it thrives long into the future.
Do you have experience of building projects, trades, architecture or quantity surveying and would you like to give your time and knowledge to help a community building? We would love to hear from you!
We particularly welcome people from a diverse range of backgrounds

The Salisbury Centre is open to all who want to develop their spiritual, psychological and creative life. We provide body, mind and spiritual practices in an uplifting non-denominational environment welcoming people from different cultural and social backgrounds.

Restrictions

Experience required: Knowledge of buildings, maintenance, trades, architecture, quantity surveying, or project management. Ability to speak up and challenge respectfully. Reliability, trustworthiness and honesty. Alignment with our ethos.
Travel details: Meetings are currently via zoom by default, with attendance at the centre only for essential purposes. As restrictions lift we will be able to meet in our garden and take forward less urgent maintenance and project work.

Expenses details: Simple expenses form and reimbursement by bank transfer (or in cash if preferred, when able to meet in person).
Training details: In return for your skills, time and knowledge, we can offer gratitude, opportunities to develop your areas of interest around caring for a building, and a warm welcome into our supportive community.

Key Responsibilities: • Conduct regular risk assessments of railway operations, identifying potential hazards and recommending effective controls. • Develop and maintain comprehensive Health and Safety policies, procedures, and documentation aligned with relevant legislation and best practices. • Provide expert advice and guidance to volunteers, staff, and contractors on Health and Safety matters. • Investigate any accidents or incidents, analysing root causes and proposing corrective actions. • Oversee the implementation of safety-related training programs for volunteers and staff. • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with established procedures and identifying areas for improvement. • Stay up-to-date with relevant Health and Safety legislation and industry best practices. • Report directly to the designated Management Representative on Health and Safety matters. • Personal Track Safety Course is mandatory (training will be given).

Trustees

The Royal Scottish Forestry Society, formed in 1854, is an educational charity focussing on promoting the understanding of trees, woods and forestry. Every year RSFS puts on what we believe to be the most extensive programme of practical forestry events across Scotland. This activity is being expanded into practical training events. The Society has published a semi-academic journal, Scottish Forestry, since 1858 promoting all aspects of good practice in forestry. All back issues are available to Members via our website. The Society has a mix of individual and organisational Members. Our membership includes professional foresters and managers, woodlands owners and many others with an interest in trees and woods. RSFS is also the parent entity of Cashel Forest Trust, a charity based near Balmaha, in East Loch Lomond. Cashel Forest Trust owns a 1,300-hectare estate comprising a visitor centre, 5 km of recreational paths, a hydro-electric scheme, 300 Ha of native woodland, 500 Ha of peatland under restoration and 500 Ha of montane and open hillside. Cashel welcomes more than 10,000 visitors a year with an interest in natural ecosystems, native woodland and citizen science.
